Thank you all so much for your interest. I know someone doing a one name study, who has a note of a memorial inscription in Kent refering to 'Also remembering sister Jane, who died in Australia. Now the Jane, that my friend thought was the sister, was perhaps the one who married in the Sevenoaks district but we couldn't check on her dying until we knew a married name. Seeing reference to an Australian born niece with a Joseph in 1901 adds weight to the theory that we have 'married' the right Jane. I know that we could buy the marriage certificate but June has bought literally hundreds of certificates in order to help other researchers and so your help to answer my question is much appreciated. |

Chloe, There are only 2 marriages per page for that year so it has been fully transcribed. Crista |

Can't seem to find Jane in 1891 or 1901 but there is this in 1901: Eleaner Emery 12 Austrialia Niece Sevenoaks Kent Joseph Emery 45 Sevenoaks, Kent, England Brother Sevenoaks Kent widowed. Might explain why I can't find them in 1891. Crista |

Does that necessarily mean that Jane married Joseph? She may have married someone else who just hasn't been transcribed yet. I can't find a Jane Emery of the right age on the 1891 and 1901. I think I've found Joseph on 1891, on a vessel. |

Thank you Crista. I am fortunate that we were dealing with less than common names here. Many thanks to all for their input. |

Thank you so much Crista. How did you find that when the others said it was not possible? I had gone to check her birthplace, which changed around but was probably Maidstone? |

Grampa Jim - yes you can as long as you have the full reference. I think it only applies for marriages way back though, if you wanted to apply for a marriage in the last 50 years or so you have to know all the details. |

Can you order the Marriage certificate with just the Bride's name? This is not a rhetorical question, I really don't know. |

Alternatively you can try to find the groom in 1891 and see who his wife is, or trace the other grooms listed and see what their wives are to eliminate them. Alternatively, if you know of a child of the marriage the maiden name will be on its birth cert. Or if they married in church and you know which one you can check the marriage register. nell |
