If you have a name and a year, it should be findable (is that a word? lol) Post the details, and we'll have a look. He might be on FreeBMD. Have you tried there?

Hi Tracy, thanks for answering. He is my gg grandfather, I am trying to find his Parents. He was born in 1856 sutton, He was married to Alice Mee in1876. I have her parents but not his. I wonder why his parents were not on the marriage certificate. The witness of the marriage are Robert and Mary Jackson. Margaret

Margaret Great to hear about Alice but if you are look for your GG Grandfather maybe his name would give us all a clue as to who we are looking for. Hee Hee. Post the information and the wheels will start turning quicker than your thinks. Cheers Victor

You still haven't given his name. It's too late for FreeBMD. Buy credits for 1837online and look for his birth registration between December 1955 and March 1957. Then you can order it from the GRO. Marriage certs only ever name the father (though that's not always correct), and if he has died then sometimes not even that. Brith certs name both parents, unless the baby was illegitimate.

Hi Margaret When the fathers name is missing from the marriage certificate it often means that the person is illegitimate. can you find him on a census record? Should that be 1856?? Heather

I've had a look on Ancestry and I think Margaret is talking about 1876 and not 1976 for the marriage. Kath. x

Don't know if this is any use:

John Darlington married Alice Mee 1st qtr 1876 (regn Prescot)

1881 census- 8 Manor St, Sutton dtr Hannah age 5
1891 census-53 Peasley Cross Lane Sutton
John,Alice & 3 children William,Henry & Mary A
1901 census-4 Ell Bess Lane, John,Alice,William & Henry. John is a copper worker,
1911 7 Sherdley Rd St Helens; John, no Alice d1908, William, his new wife Mary Jane m1907 nee Langley children Rhoda and Austin.

In 1871 the only John that fits is working in Shropshire as a servant. In 1861 there is a 5 yr old John at 7 Welsh Row,Sutton. I do not have the other inhabitants of the house as he is the only Darlington. However an Ellen Darlington age 35 is shown as resident of the County Asylum,Sutton. I would suspect this is his mother. She was born in Liverpool.

Your response made me smile because I used to live in Peasley Cross many moons ago! :-D
