Hello Mary, Thank you - Yes, that's my granny (the young Elizabeth). But Rachel is a mystery. She is not on '81 (and now '91) censuses - in fact the only sign of her is on a gravestone - she and baby Hector both died in 1893. I suppose it's possible she was in a sanitorium if she was ill. Thank you for the info you found anyway, Best wishes, Gordon.

Hello Mary, Wonder if a Rachel Douglas shows on the 1891 census, probably living with parents Hector and Elizabeth possibly in Glasgow's Claremont Street, Finnieston or somewhere in Anderston or Kelvin districts. Reason for asking is to find out if she was older than her sister Elizabeth (Lizzie) - the two girls will be around 11-14 years old - and where she was born, Ireland or Scotland. If running out of credits, don't worry, Mary, I'll be going on to Scotlandspeople myself again soon when I get my queries in order of priority :) Best wishes, Gordon.

FOR HILARY JARMAN Hi I have been searching Scotlands people for two years and found a lot of ladies in my family that married straight after husbands died. Do you think maybe she had been married before. most of the certs give the first married name and only on births and deaths gives original Maiden name Mary worth a thought

Hilary Report 6 May 2005 20:28

Hi Mary, me again, do you know what it tells you on their death records on Scotlands People. If you have any spare credits left could you look up Alexander's (Kerr) death about 1877, probably in Dalkeith. I think it tells you mother & father's names. Many thanks, Hilary.

Could you look for 2 deaths please KATHERINE OR CATHERINE THOMSON (maiden name RENNY or RENNIE) and husband JOHN THOMSON . KATHERINE was born 1817 in KINNELL, ANGUS JOHN was born 1824 in FARNEL ,ANGUS. They were married in 1847. I have them on 1891 census so were still alive then so I guess they died between 1891-1901.
