I am very curious too Alan! Unfortunately the 1891 only states London as well now. So I guess I have no way of knowing! :0( He was dead before 1901 census as he died in March 1901. My only hope now I suppose is to find him on the 1851 and see what it says there. He married in 1852 in Pancras,Middlesex.(Ancestry) Thanks for all the tips everyone. Jenny

I was once told that there are no Roads in the city of London, only streets, etc. Dave

Thanks Netti, I only had the printed online 1881 version so didn't realise original was hard to read or might even be something else. I'm at the transcribers mercy!!!! Only just found this branch of family this far back yesterday with help of three kind GR stars,up till then earliest I had was James's grandaughter Mildred's birth 1890. So time to crack on with more certs I feel. The Richardson wall is a crumbling! Thanks for your help. Jenny

hi Jenny just had a look - how strange to give an actual road! Queens is hard to read - perhaps it says something else but I don't know what! have you got any other earlier addresses from certificates which might narrow it down? or you can get old maps of areas of london - I have one of whitechapel in 1873 I think you have your work cut out - good luck! netti x

sorry jenny I thought you meant the address was where the census was taken! sounds a complicated address to give as place of birth though doesn't it? how did they fit it in the column! netti x ps who was it? just so I can see for myself!

Jenny

Jenny Report 15 Jun 2005 22:21

Hi Netti, It was a birth place for a 55 year old man on the 1881 census that I was trying to work out. Do I understand you correctly by enumeration district do you mean the place where the census was taken? It was taken in Richmond ,Surrey. Please tell me if I am not understanding what you meant. Best wishes Jenny

Jenny Report 15 Jun 2005 22:01

Hi Julie, Her mum was working there in a Hotel in Fulham when she had My Nans brother. Then after my Nan was born the family moved to Rye,Sussex as Nan's Dad was in the Army there.Three years later 1921 they were back in Fulham, then alas all four children were put into care when the marriage broke down. They all ended up in Manchester as that was where children in care were returned to the place of their fathers birth. My poor Nan had a very unsettled childhood. Jack a nory over. Best wishes Jenny

Queen Charlottes hospital was in Hammersmith and closed down in 2000 and moved next to Hammersmith hospital. About a year later it was pulled down and some flats were built.

Jenny, The Queens Charlotte Hospitals of today are not the ones from the Victorian Era,,these were called Lying -in Hospitals,,,and the remains of one is in the Shepherds Bush area ;; The ones of today all stem from these;;; Kay.

He shows POB as London on the 61 & &71 .Can't check it against 51 yet as don't yet have it. I'm hoping more info from the 91 might clarify it. Thanks again for your interest Jenny

Thanks for checking for me Irene, I wonder if it means born in a Hospital in Queens Road,(City) of London? Is Queens Road in the city and was there a hospital there in 1825-6? What do you think? Jenny
