I have been trying to locate the following family after 1861, but cannot find them anywhere. Details as follows: Charles Ireland born 1825 in Plymouth, Devon Emma Ireland born 1825 in Plymouth Devon Emma Ireland born 1855 in Plymouth Devon. In 1851, Charles and Emma are together. In 1861 it is just Emma and her daughter Emma, Charles is nowhere to be seen. But Emma is not down as widowed. After 1861 I cannot find any of them. They have disappeared. Emma's maiden name was Littlejohns before she married Charles. She was the sister of my GGG Grandfather. thanks, Siobhan |

Hiya, No idea what Charles occupation was in 1861 as he is not with Emma and his daughter. In 1851 his occupation was a General Dealer. Emma was in Plymouth St Andrew in 1851 and 1861 |

I guess you have tried just entering their first names and birth date and place of birth?? I guess they may both have died? Worth taking a chance and getting the marriage cert of that Emma? |

thanks for your help. the only thing that confuses me, is in 1861 Charles is not with them, and Emma is not down as widowed. Which makes me assume he was aware somewhere. I wonder if the moved abroad. |

Either I am missing something, or Emma Webber could be totally unconnected as nobody seems to have found a marriage between Frederick Webber and Emma Ireland? Surely an Emma with a daughter called Emma wasn't that uncommon? If I were you I would try looking for Emma under either of the two surnames she could have married in the 1871 marriage that somebody found above - Couch or Leigh? Although the marriage could have taken place after the 1871 census, of course. Kate. |

Kate, it does look like Emma Married a Frederick Webber as they are at the same address as 1861 when Emma was a Mrs Ireland. Unless she never re-married and was living in sin! 1881 England Census records matching your search for All Records > Census > 1881 England Census Match Quality Name Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relationship Residence View Image Samuel Townshend abt 1821 Widdicombe, Devon, England Lodger 7 Queens Cottages, Plymouth St Andrew, Devon, England Annie Webber abt 1865 Plymouth, Devon, England Daughter 7 Queens Cottages, Plymouth St Andrew, Devon, England Emma Webber abt 1827 Plymouth, Devon, England Wife 7 Queens Cottages, Plymouth St Andrew, Devon, England Frederick Webber abt 1819 Exeter, Devon, England Head 7 Queens Cottages, Plymouth St Andrew, Devon, England RG11/2198 Registration district: Plymouth Sub-registration district: St Andrew ED, institution, or vessel: 13 Folio: 66 Page: 76 Lib |

Kate, FreeBMD has a big gap in marriages in from 1861-1865. From 1861-1891 they are all at the same address. In 1891 Emma Webber is listed as Emma Felderman's mother Crista |

Hiya, Hadn't managed to come online for a bit and just checked my thread and all I can say is WOW. You lot are great. It just goes to show a fresh pair of eyes do work. Thankyou very much everyone. I just wish I could find some of my other ancestors missing in census's, but I really believe those ones escaped the enumerators or where transribed as something very bizarre. Once again, thank you. regards, Siobhan |
