Hello, I am planning to go to the ERO in the next few weeks. I only have a small amount of my own work to do, so I am willing to do some extra searches for other people. Please provide as much information as possible. I cannot promise to do all (or any) of the requests, but I will try. The more simple the request, the better the chance (I am still a novice) :-) UPDATE: Amanda has raised a very helpful point. You can find if the records you are interested in are at the ERO by looking at the 'Parish Records' database of the ERO (Google: ero parish records). FINAL NOTE: I think I have enough now. So no more please. I will send you a message if I get round to your request. Good luck :) |

Oh, yes please Ian! I am trying to track down some information about my g-g-g-grandparents, John HORNER and his second wife Elizabeth. I know that John married his first wife, Charlotte Sweatman, on the 29th September 1778 at St. Mary's Church in Leyton (John was a farmer and lived at Leytonstone / Low Leyton), but I haven't found his marriage to Elizabeth which must have taken place in the late 1780's or in 1790. Their first child, Maria, was christened 3 October 1790, and John and Charlotte's last child, Sarah Charlotte, was christened 31st May 1789, which would suggest that John and Elizabeth probably married in 1789 or 1790, but I suppose Sarah Charlotte could have been christened some time after her mother's death. So, if you have time, could you please look at the St. Mary's, Leyton, parish records, to see if you can find the marriage between John and Elizabeth in 1789 or 1790? And if you can't find it, could you please have a look at the marriage between John and Charlotte to see if it gives any clues about John's family (witnesses etc.)? Thanks very much, and good luck with your own research. I have looked at the ERO 'parish records' database, and the marriages for St. Mary the Virgin (W) 1575-1899 are on microfilm. So I will quite understand if you don't want to get into using microfilm on your first visit! Kate. |

Thanks so much for such a generous offer. Long to get to the Essex RO myself but it's four train changes away! I'm looking for the marriage of Samuel Hurrell. He married a Sarah from High Laver and I should really like to know her maiden name. Samuel was born in Stanford Rivers abt 1787 and I should think the marriage took place around 1820 or maybe a bit before. Think the marriage might have taken place in Stapleford Abbotts as this is where they settled and the three children that I know of were born. However, if this is all a bit too time consuming please don't worry. Many thanks, Ness. |

Ness I think that marriage MAY be in High Laver, I was looking through their records a couple of weeks ago and seem to recall a Hurrell. I'll try to check it out next time I go. I think that our Whitbreads may be connected as well, I have a Rebecca born High Laver 1798 marrying William Dennis. |

Ian If by some miracle you still have time after doing the other look-ups and you are still feeling charitable (!) I would be sooo grateful if you could look in the burials register for St Mary's, Chelmsford (now the cathedral) for any burials surname SMOOTHY between 1810-1830. Many thanks indeed. nell |

Hi Ian If not too greedy of your time, I am looking for information on a William Henry Priest born c1829 in Barking, his parents names are William and Elizabeth PRIEST wonder if you can find any other siblings born around 1830's or a marriage for William Priest to an Elizabeth ? c1820's.
