Marriage Look Up Please, Martha CHAPMAN born abt 1836 Sotby - Legsby - Lincolnshire Daughter of Thomas Chapman born 1809 Wold Newton Lincs Elizabeth White born abt 1813 Withern Lincs. 1861census they were in Legsby Son Henry Chapman born abt 1843 Sotby William Chapman born 1841 Sotby. Thanks, Rita

Rosemary, I have not idea.......so guess I will just have to wait unless I find her on the 1851 & 1861c. I know in 1861 they were in Legsby. Rita xx

Do you even know that Martha was alive?? There are no Martha's born Sotby or Legsby in 1861 that I could find of about the right age. For that matter, I couldn't find her brother William either! Sarah

William in 1861 William Chepmer abt 1841 Sotby Servant East Torrington Lincolnshire And the parents Elisabett Chapman abt 1801 Whither Wife Legsby Lincolnshire Thos Chapman abt 1811 Wold Newton Head Legsby Lincolnshire So, do we presume that Martha married prior to 1861 census? Assuming, of course, that she was alive............ Rosemary

Are you saying that Martha was at home with her Parents and siblings on the 1861 census ? .. if so, then she didn't marry till AFTER 61. Have you got her family on 1871 ? Ancestry Civil Reg has only one entry for a Martha Chapman in Horncastle district (includes Sotby), and that is a marriage in 1888. Rosemary

If Martha lived and married she probably did so during the sketchy period of marriages on FreeBMD, in the late 1850's!! Sarah

Hi, Thank you all for your kind help......where Martha is hiding I don't know I have her in my little book as being abt 5yrs on the 1841c which was for SOTBY. She has'nt turned up since. At least i know Thomas & Elisabett was on the 1861c and William Chepmer was a Servant (working for who) never heard that name before Chepmer. I know William goes on in later years to marry Emily Toyne of Lissington. I really do appreciate you all being so kind. Rita

Rita 'Chepmer' is a mistranscription - you have to allow for those when searching for people on censuses. As you clearly haven't any trace of Martha apart from 1841, it may be worthwhile asking for an NBI lookup. Rosemary
