Hi I have the marriage cert for my g.g grand parents David John Evans and Sarah Anne Spinks, dated 1893. Their ages are both recorded as 22. David John's father is down as John Evans and profession Police officer. I cant find David John with father john as a police officer. I have found David John in the 1901 census as David J Evans born 1872 pontardawe, glamorgan wales. can anyone help me find him and his father in previous census please? I have been looking on ancestry for a while now and need a fresh pair of eyes!! thank you cleo |

Pontadawe is the Welsh name for Swansea. I have looked for him on the 1881, but although there are lots of David Evans with father John, none of the fathers is a policeman. Of course its possible David made up the 'police officer' bit to sound more impressive. Have you managed to find his father anywhere else? nell |

Did you notice that in 1901 he had his grandfather Wiliam Evans living with him? I assume he would be John's (the policeman) father. pat |

Hi Pat, Yes I did I also found a David J Evans living with a William in the 1891 census, but the relationship was Nephew, so I looked in the 81 census to find a David John Evans also living with a William but this time the relationship is son. It does seem that he could be the same William though!! What do you think? Thanks Cleo |

I think the 1901 and 1891 are definatley the same. Maybe David's father died when he was young. As for the relationship changing, i have a couple of those! pat Just had a look at the 1881, I agree thats the same. If you notice, there is a 'brother' Griffith age 12. In 1901 David has a neighbour, Griffith Evans aged 22! |

I did wonder if Davids parents were married? I have looked on the IGI and Ancestry but cannot come up with a marriage fo9r John to Jane Lloyd. Although I did find one on the IGI to a Jane Davies? Possibly a misstranscription? Anyway you have lots to be getting on with now!! lol Pat |
