This is 1891 census info........... Amos, Isabella abt 1869 Coventry, Warwickshire, England Sister St Nicholas Nottinghamshire Amos, Joshua abt 1864 New Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire, England Brother-in-law St Nicholas Nottinghamshire And this is 1901............ Alex Amos abt 1898 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son Barnsley Yorkshire Joshua Amos abt 1864 New Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire, England Head Barnsley Yorkshire Joshua Amos abt 1894 Nottinghamshire, England Son Barnsley Yorkshire Mary J Amos abt 1863 Coventry, Warwickshire, England Wife Barnsley Yorkshire Address undecipherable ( apart from the word 'caravan') But............I also have in 1901............. Isabell Amos abt 1869 Coventry, Warwickshire, England Visitor Barnsley Yorkshire Described as 'married' Royal G Amos abt 1901 Barnsley, Yorkshire, England Visitor Barnsley Yorkshire Address: Dobie Street - host family name Cowsell I spent ages searching on 1837 for Isabella's death.......no wonder I couldn't find it! Has anyone any theories about just what precisely might have been going on? Rose

Hi Rose looking at 1891 image, Isabella is written as sister in law, with Joshua Amos as brother in law. head of household Tom Hall Morley married to annie Morley ( she was born in New Bolingbrooke Lincs, same place as Joshua) Another case of mis-transcription! Christine

Marriage of Joshua Amos to Isabella Haymes Sept quarter 1890, Rochdale greater Manchester, Lancs vol 8e page 21

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 24 Jul 2005 15:39

Isabella Haymes married Joshua Amos in Rochdale district in JAS 1890..................on 1891 census they are with Joshua's sister, Annie and her family. The enumerator clearly was unable to cope with the various 'in-law' relationships! I am reasonably confident that I have the same Isabell(a) in 1901............can't figure out what Joshua was up to. Rose

Hi, see what you mean now!!! In 1891, they arent necessarily married. She could be married to Joshuas brother who is absent, so as hes the only possible suspect it looks like him??? Especially as in 1901 she is married as is Joshua-to someone else. Perharps hubby works away?

Hi Laura Thanks for that death info..........most helpful. I'd looked in the period between 1891 census and Joshua's elder son's birth..........hadn't thought of checking later dates. Joshua and Isabella married in 1890.......... Rose

Christine

Christine Report 24 Jul 2005 15:43

there's a marriage of a Joshua Amos to Ethel Cowsell in March quarter 1908. (see earlier info where Isabella was in 1901!) Hmm.

Hi Laura I have him on all earlier censuses, thank you. It's his marital shenanigans which have me puzzled! Rose

Christine

Christine Report 24 Jul 2005 15:57

yep, just looked at 1901 again - Ethel Cowsell was in same household as Isabella! She would have been approx 20 in 1908, Joshus about 44. Double hmm!!

Christine

Christine Report 24 Jul 2005 16:01

Birth cert for Royal George Amos would be interesting! Must have been something going around in 1901, as he also died in Sept quarter 1901, just like his mother

Christine..........thank you for the additional info. As you say, it would be very interesting to see his birth cert...........when finances permit, I may well invest in that. As for 'something going around'..........I think that may well have been Joshua! lol! He seems to have been a bit of a philanderer........... Rose
