Was Mary's maiden name Yates? Name: Yates, Ellen Edith Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1875 District: Shifnal County: Shropshire Staffordshire Volume: 6a Page: 649 That would explain the 'Y' in her name on the census Rose

She may be Mary's daughter from before her marriage, and William took her as his own......that would be feasible, bearing in mind her birthplace. Rose

Rose, she can't be their daughter as they are not married in 1881. I can't find an Ellen Redhead in 1881. lol, thanks Lib. Hope it isn't lust! :)

Ellen is William and Mary's daughter - born in the area where Mary was born. I'm curious as to why you queried the 1901 - if you had the family back to 1841, wouldn't you have known who Joseph was? Rose

There is no daughter..........if you check the transcription, all her offspring are boys. The one you are querying is Norman Rose

I would say brother in law. Mary is a widow, he is single, so presumably her late husband's brother Rose

Could someone please take a look at the following image... RG13/3402, Folio 125, Page 38. Looking at the Redhead family. Can anyone work out the relationship of Joseph E to Mary?
