Looking for Mary Alice Long b1853 Stratford Essex. Just give me a mo to type more info.

Mary Alice Long married William New 1882 Greenwich. They had a daughter Mary Alice Long New also in 1882. On 1891 living in Deptford, Mary gives age as 38, birth place Stratford Essex. Found a birth for Mary Alice Long in 1853 Stratford Essex. Can't find Mary on 1881 to work backwards!! feeling a bit thick!

Thanks, have tried family search and ancestry (free bit). Mary Alice Long was married to William New (found their marriage on freebmd). Have their daughters baptism cert from local library Trying to get more info without paying! as have used up this months budget on death certs for a different branch of family.

Can't see her - have you got her on 1901 to confirm age and place of birth? Do you have an address for her from her marriage cert? nell

I think finding her on 1861 or 1871 would be more fruitful ... but as mentioned, without knowing who her father was (from her marriage cert) or who BOTH her parents are (from her birth cert) then you'll not know if you are following the correct person or not. Address at 2nd daughters baptism 1883 was 32 Foxwell Street Brockley (greenwich district) 1891 says Mary age 38, living 24 Giffin Street Deptford (greenwich district) born Stratford Essex. 1901 census says Mary age 48, living Faustin Place Rotherhithe. As you say I might get more information from the Marriage cert or an earlier census. Thanks

Just checked my papers. All consistent with birth in Stratford. Middle name definately Alice. Ho hum.... Perhaps I can nip down to the local history library and look up the marriage in the parish records and find out who Mary's dad was??

If Rose is right then Alice Mary Marshall b1854 Rotherhithe was living at 72 Union Road Rotherhithe in 1881. Her stepfather had died by then.
