in the 1851 sussex cencus i have what looks like the name urbane hall , in the 1861 cencus its been transcribed up as urleane hall, (male),b1843 he is not on any other cencus in ancestry or in the bmd, can anyone come up with ideas on what his name could have been , ive tried soundex searches and lds site, mind with a name like that he prob changed it to fred or something, any help appreciated, jenny

thanks for that,but dont think hes mine as hes home with his parents in 1861. ive never heard of the name urban before. thanks for the help. though the one you have is in right area. mine was born laughton and i think hailsham is close to that, maybe ill have to send for death cert to see his parents names.

There is this birth registered in Hailsham district which covers Laughton, at the right time for the age of your ancestor:- Urban Hall Sept. qtr. 1842, Hailsham, VII, 330 Kath. x

its thrown me a bit as some cencus they were all born sussex and 1871 kent. wish they sat still ,

Jenny I wouldn't take too much notice of the birthplace as per 1861 census.......Laughton and Langton look very simliar when written, and by the time the enumerator got back to 'base' and started copying on to the sheets, he could easily have mistaken what he had written in the first place. The baptism and GRO records are much more likely to be accurate. Rose

thanks rose, ive just done a search using one of his sisters but used kent instead of sussex, and shes living with him ,hes now down as usbam. i think i have a headache coming on lol.

1901 hes dissapeared again, have tried usbam urban urbane urleane ,all england without using a surname. wonder if he was part of the magic circle.
