See below I have Emmanuel Legge b 1847 living with parents in Blackfriars Canterbury in 1861. I have Emmanuel Legge living in Blackfriars Canterbury in 1867 when he marries Sarah Jane Baldwin. I have Emmanuel Legge living in Blackfriars Canterbury in July 1871 when his daughter Ada is born. But I cant find him on the 1871 census! Any help greatly appreciated. Jacqui

Hi Jacqui Was he born in canterbury? Do you have him on the 1881 census - if so could you post those details too - we maybe able to find him under his wifes or children's names . Poss that his first name has been mistranscribed etc. Much happiness debi

........I can't see them in 71 / 81......am I right in thinking Ada was born after the census ( Sept Q ) ?

Do you know of any more children...........I ask because there is a birth for an Emmanuel Legge in 1868 Canterbury could this be another child I wonder............ I don't suppose you have the actual BC for ada........it might have an address !! esta

Thanks Debi and Jim. Just found that 1891 entry too. Certainly looks like him, but according to the marriage and Adas birth cert he was a Smith. His wife is recorded as Sarah Jane......... I'd say it's him. The ONLY way of knowing for sure is to obtain the BC of the younger children Percy & Florence who are born in Chatham Kent...... you'd know by the mothers maiden name if you had the right chap !! Good luck Debi

Esta Don't 4get that 3 of those children on the 1891 census are recorded as being born in IRELAND - the oldest there is 17. The younger 2 aged 7 & 5 were born in Kent Much happiness Debi

Mmm Just found matches for all the children on the 1891 in the 1837 Oversees index. Will have to send for a couple of certs. But why was Ada registered 'normally' Jacqui

I've just found Black friers on the 1871 census..........I've looked all through 8 pages and your Legge family aren't there. There is a Benjamin Legge with wife Ann and kids - he is a whitesmith....probably connected some how !! Esta
