If you have already found the GRO reference for his birth, then ordering from the GRO online is the easiest way in my opinion. They are also getting quicker. I ordered a marriage certificate on Tuesday evening and it arrived Friday morning. If you haven't found the reference, give us his name and birth year and I'll have a look for you. Kath. x

This is the 1891 census retrn which i guess shows the correct harry. His birth cert will confirm his parents names, althought this one does look like a strong contender Adams, Alfred J abt 1886 Bexhill, Sussex, England Son Bexhill Sussex Adams, Annie S abt 1878 Icklesham, Sussex, England Daughter Bexhill Sussex Adams, Elisa J abt 1859 Icklesham, Sussex, England Wife Bexhill Sussex Adams, Harry abt 1889 Bexhill, Sussex, England Son Bexhill Sussex Adams, Henry F abt 1860 Bexhill, Sussex, England Head Bexhill Sussex Adams, Stephen abt 1890 Bexhill, Sussex, England Son Bexhill Sussex Adams, William G abt 1887 Bexhill, Sussex, England Son Bexhill Sussex ------------------------------------- His father henry was a brickmaker sorry the address at which they are living is almost impossible to decipher Source information: RG12/767 Registration district: Battle Sub registration district: Bexhill ED, institution, or vessel: 5 Folio: 91 Page: 9 --------------------------------------- 1881 doesn't loo as though henry was married beofr e1881 so he is still at home with HIS parents and siblings Albert Adams abt 1833 Bexhill, Sussex, England Head Brick Yd Cottage Sidley Green, Bexhill, Sussex, England Anne Adams abt 1831 Bexhill, Sussex, England Wife Brick Yd Cottage Sidley Green, Bexhill, Sussex, England Charlotte Adams abt 1867 Bexhill, Sussex, England Daughter Brick Yd Cottage Sidley Green, Bexhill, Sussex, England Henry Adams abt 1860 Bexhill, Sussex, England Son Brick Yd Cottage Sidley Green, Bexhill, Sussex, England Mary Adams abt 1869 Bexhill, Sussex, England Daughter Brick Yd Cottage Sidley Green, Bexhill, Sussex, England Stephen Adams abt 1871 Bexhill, Sussex, England Son Brick Yd Cottage Sidley Green, Bexhill, Sussex, England

There is this birth on 1837online:- Harry Adams March qtr. 1889, Battle, vol. 2b, page 61 Bexhill is covered by the Battle registration district. If you go to this site:- http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ then scroll down to the bottom left hand side of the page to where it says 'Shortcuts', and click on ordering certificates online, you can order from there. Ordering certificates 'online' is both cheaper and quicker. If you order from the GRO at Southport, you get a photocopied certificate for £7.00 which normally arrives within 7 days of ordering. If you order from GRO (Southport) by telephone, these same certificates cost £8.50 You CAN get certificates from the Registry Offices in the district that the 'event' took place ... I believe these are cheaper still (not sure of cost) ...BUT.. it is a handwritten copy certificate and I have known of several occasions where the details have been copied wrongly due to the origional handwriting being hard to decipher. I had ONE cert like this ... and spent nearly £40 trying to find a birth for the bride ... then found out the Bride's surname on the marriage cert had been copied WRONGLY. Never again. Hope this info helps. The GRO Southport are online. Dancer :-)

http://www.gro(.)gov.uk/gro/content/certificates .... remove () You can copy and paste the address into your browser address search bar ... but remove the () !!! You will need to register with the site (free) and then just follow the simple instructions. You will need the Event (Birth) Name (Harry Adams) Year (1889) Quarter (March) District (Battle) Volume (2b) and Page number (61) to be able to complete the form. You can pay by Credit or Debit card and is 100% SAFE. Good Luck

Jess, I thought the census gave Harry's father as Henry 'F' Adams and not Henry John Adams, or do you think the 'F' was just a mistranscription for 'J'. I think I'd be inclined to just order the birth certificate for a start. Kath. x p.s. Just looked at the image and it's definitely Henry J. Adams, so the marriage is likely to be the correct one.

Nichola, Just hide the bank statements when they come - lol. That's what I do. I really dare not add up what this hobby has cost me in the last couple of years - but what the hell!! I don't spend much on anything else. Kath. x
