Hi, I haven't asked for a look-up before but am now quite desparate for anyone's assistance. I have hunted high and low on Ancestry for this rellie but to no avail. He was born at 48 WEST STREET, MILE END OLD TOWN Eastern according to his birth cert. in 1858 and was definitely alive during those censuses. I would be SOOO grateful for any help. Many thanks Aileenx |

Hello The only Alfred Sturt I can see on the 1861 is a three year old in Worthing. Could this be him? Do you have any info about his parents or siblings? Jane |

Thanks so much Jane for having a look for me. His birth cert definitely gives an address in West Street, Mile End so I guess your finding isn't him. He was dead by the 1891 census and I have just realised I haven't got him anywhere in the 1881 either so gg granddad is a bit of a mystery!! Aileenx |

Sorry Jane in answer to the second part of your question, his parents were William & Rebecca Sturt and their children were Emily, Maud , Rebecca jnr., and Thomas. These were the entries on the 1881, minus Alfred who had married in 1880. Aileenx |

Hi Jeanette, I know what you mean but I have found nothing for the family on the 1861 or 1871. Then they appeared on the 1881, minus Alfred which I expected as he'd married however I haven't yet found an entry for him and his wife Matilda. The next entry is in 1891 but he still isn't there as he's now dead! I sort of hoped the address of West Street would come up trumps!! LOL Aileenx |

Sorry Aileen Had a good look on the 1861 but can't find him or his parents. Perhaps someone will be kind enough to have another look on the 1861 and also on the 1871? Good luck Jane |

Aileen You may already have this but here's the marriage reference for Alfred and Matilda, Sturt, Alfred James and Williams, Matilda, December quarter 1880, Bethnal Green, vol 1c, p380 Perhaps you should search around this area in 1881? Jane |

Hi Jane, I feel bad that the info you've given me is already known to me but I do appreciate you trying to help me solve this mystery nevertheless. :o) Thought I'd cheer myself up and send for a couple of certificates- Alfred's parents' marriage and the father's death- to compensate for Alfred hiding from me!! Have a good Sunday Aileenx |

Hi Aileen, Do you have the record of Alfred's death? There is an Alfred Sturt who died in 1890 in Whitechapel, Middx. Could this be your Alfred? Good luck, Gail |

Hi Aileen I didn't, just did a general search for Alfred born in 1858 in Mile End - it was the most likely one it came up with! Can't find them in 1861 though, hope you manage to eventually. Jacqueline |

Hello Aileen, I have the census cd's and the house numbers only go up to 39 for West St.The rest are missing from the census. So that is probably why you can't find your family in 1861. Best wishes Maureen. |
