Hi all Am willing to do graveyard searches in North West Devon - Bideford, Great Torrington, Holsworthy & any villages in between (Bradworthy, Parkham, Putford, Woolsery, Buckland Brewer, Langtree, Shebbear etc), to the Cornish border. I don't have a digital camera, so manual transcriptions only. Angela |

HI i will understand if you say no to my request with it being such a common surname but the last known info on each they were living in Bideford and i am sure that should be where they are buried. Charles James in 1871 census was down as age 60yrs buti am sure he is dead by 1881 census as i think i found his wife widowed then. .I believe He was alive in July 1871 when his son was married. His wife maybe buried with him her name was Elizabeth and she was approx 15yrs younger. John and Eliza James in 1901 census they were age approx 56yr and 59yrs according to sons marriage cert he was still alive in 1903, so death after then i assume. If you require any more i will try to give it you. I would be really grateful if you could do this. thank you for the offer Star |

Paula Couldn't find Mary Southwood I'm afraid. Mind you there were a lot that were unreadable or without headstones. I suppose the council may have a list of people buried. Would you like me to dig out their phone number? Angela |

Sandra I'm afraid I couldn't find any Roskruges at all. I looked in the 4 graveyards in Bideford that I am aware of but nothing. Mind you that's not to say they aren't there, I may not have been able to see for looking! Will keep them in mind for next time I go. Angela |

Paula, I actually looked round 4 graveyards. One is round St Marys Church, Church Walk, there is an 'overflow' one called East the Water churchyard. There is another (Old Town Churchyard) where the gravestones are lined up round the perimeter which is now a children's playground & recreation area. The fourth is Higher Cemetery which didn't open until 1889 so Mary is unlikely to be in that one. Good Luck Angela |

Hi Angela my ancestors HARRIS(EAST THE WATER) AND ROWCLIFFE(COLDHARBOUR) lived in Bideford in 1862 and I have found them in later census. I should not think any gravestone survived from that date but if you see any of these names on later gravestones on your rounds I would be very interested in the details please. Many thanks Irene |

Irene, Haven't forgotten your Harrises & Rowcliffes. Weather's been grotty lately but seems to be cheering up - will try & get out in the next couple of days. Sandra Will also have another look for your Roskruges. Angela |
