Find Ancestors

Help!! I have lost an ancestor. His name was Theophilus William Heley (possibly Healy and miss spelt on birth certificate). He was born 20 October 1862 in Queen Charlotte Lying-in hipital Marylebone to single mother Elizabeth Heley (Healey) aged 23. I can find no records of Theophilus (who apparently prefered the name Tim) until 1891 when he appeares as Theophilus W Healey with his wife Martha and sons William and Thomas. They are living in Richmand and Theophilus is described as a warehouse porter. I also have them in 1901, but where is he on 1871 & 1881? Can anyone help me solve this mystery? Jo

Perhaps Theo's mother married and they are both in the census under her husband's surname? nell

I think she did marry, but I can't find a marriage and no one in the family seems to know who she married, i'm really stuck. My uncle said His mother came from Kerry Ireland, but I think they stayed in this county until Theophilus was about 23 when they emigrated to america or australia i'm not sure. Theophilus however had met his future wife by then and decided not to go with them.

thanks guys Elly :) thanks but i'm sure she was married by then Heather, i thought the eaton bray one was her too, but apparently she was definately born in ireland, the other one, the date is a bit out, but i only have the hospital record of her age to go by, so its a possibility. jess thanks that is definately them lynn thats interesting and worth further investigating, husbands uncle says he lived with mother but, mother-in-law always thought he was a foundling, which woukd tie in with the boys home thanks all jo

cheers sally & Chris, I had not thought of looking at theos marriage cert for witnesses, good idea. As for Elizabeth, my husbands uncle is addament that the Heley on Theos birth cert was a miss spelling so I guess elizabeth was healey, but who knows, if theo was living with her she could have adopted that spelling for ease.
