Could someone please find a Mary Ann Mills, who was at the Whitechapel Workhouse in 1841. She gave birth the day after the census, and I'd like to know how old she was please, and if there was a John anywhere around.

There are two workhouses in Whitechapel 1841...... Whitechapel Union (Charles St, Mile End Town) and Whitechapel & Spitalfields Union Which one babe ??

Not sure, but since there's no mention of Spitalfields, I'd say the Union one. N Mursill was the Master (is that the head?) at the time.

Thanks for this Elaine :) I wonder if Mary jnr married before or after Ellen... or even if she survived. Do you think I'll ever know which Ellen is mine? lol Wish they'd hurry up and put 1851 back. I NEED to find these people now lol I don't think she can have been born after that. All the censuses have her down as 1841 or 1843.

Tracy, What address does she give on her wedding cert babe. Have you got any possible John's on the 1861 census - (should say, have you found possible parents on 1861 ?) Elaine :-)

I don't actually have the cert. I got all the basic details from my dads cousin who has it. Think I'll have to email him and ask him what it says for the address. He's just moved house though, so it'll be a while before he can dig it out from all the boxes lol They married in Sheffield in 1860. Then she moved to Hathersage. There aren't that many John Mills in those areas, so I might just look through them all to see if I can see anything familiar. She must've been living in Sheffield before they married because he was from Hathersage. Perhaps that's why it said Sheffield in 1891.

Hi Tracy, I KNOW this is taken things to the extreme ... and I haven't been concentrating 100% with everything going on around me ! but... How about this as a 'possible' family... John Mills abt 1819 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Head Ecclesall Bierlow Yorkshire Elizabeth Mills abt 1817 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Wife Ecclesall Bierlow Yorkshire Mary Ann Mills abt 1839 Unston, Derbyshire, England Daughter Ecclesall Bierlow Yorkshire Eliza Mills abt 1849 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Ecclesall Bierlow Yorkshire Lucy Mills abt 1854 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Ecclesall Bierlow Yorkshire I'm just wondering if there would be time/space between Mary Ann b 1839 ... and Eliza b 1849 ...for a Ellen b 1844 ?? Can you see where I'm coming from ? Sheffield is niggling at me ... where did she/he/they get the idea from that she may have been born in Sheffield ? .... had something been said .... ok ... scraping the bottom of the barrel now ... Elaine :-) .... your NOT alone with this one, !!!

That's a great thought. When I finally get rid of hubby, I'll hunt through all the ones I can find and see if there are any more possibles :)

The more I think about it, the more I think this Ellen could be mine. The John on her marriage cert was a Labourer. Pretty common occupation. Perhaps John was Mary Anns fathers name, so Ellen put his name on the cert to appear more respectable. If her mother had married someone else, she could simply say that he had died. It bugs me that there's no mention of this on the marriage cert though, or at least none I've been made aware of.

Tracy, I've taken the liberty of asking Jude (from your origional thread) to send details of the 1842/43/44 lookups she did for you on 1837online. I'm hoping to check the Sheffield births, see where they lead ! ??? Elaine :-)

Thanks Elaine. I've been looking for Mary Ann births in Whitechapel, but I don't think jnr was born there. Why did they have to have London in the equation? lol All my lot are from Yorkshire or near enough. I know my way around there lol
