Hi, don't worry about it. I thought I'd ask as I live in Nottingham. I've been making a ton of calls today so I'm hoping I'll get somewhere. I've just had a look at the site you gave me and it looks quite good, but I'll wait awhile! Just seen the price! But I have found Samuel Stuckgold's burial. Turns out most of the family were actually buried in East Ham cemetery. So I'm very excited about that!! I called up the United Synagogues and they couldn't locate her at all, so I really don't know what could've happened to her. |

Hi Kirsten Sorry I ran out of time last Saturday. I put the death address in Google and found this, which might be helpful: http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=22716 |

Hi, So, I got my ggrandad's death certificate this morning. He passed away at 20 Alkham Road, Stamford Hills, Hackney. His previous address was 9 Newark Street, Mile End Old Town, (where my grandad was born), I have no idea where they are in relation to each other. My ggrandma was present at his death, and she did live with him. The only thing I am annoyed about is that I was hoping it would tell me his birth info, but it doesn't. So I'm back to square one with that. So if I want to find her death, where do I look now? I just called Abney Park Cemetery and they haven't got him listed there. Kirsten |

Yes, I ordered his death cert and it should be with me in the next few days. I'm searching for Jewish cemetaries and I shall make a few calls tomorrow. It looks like I'll have to make another day trip down to London! Thank you for all your advice. I really appreciate it. |

No the records are not on line. Best thing you could do would be to visit your own local large library just to see what the PO Directs and Elect Rolls look like. Then if you have to contact a London Library yourself, at least you will know what you are talking about!! It won't be so easy for them to fob you off!! So, if her husband was cremated, I suppose that would be at a regular crematorium?? I don't know much about Jewish formality at death.... and I suppose if she was cremated too, that would be local to whereever she was living???? (Not helpful!). Would there have been a Jewish ceremony first? Going to bed now, but will be back tomorrow. Have you actually ordered her husband's death cert yet? Merry |

My dad would've been very young at the time and he probably wouldn't have been able to understand who she was. Yes, they were Jewish. Born on the borders of Russia Poland. They married at the New Road Synagogue in Whitechapel, but that no longer exists, does it? I think her husband was cremated. Alot of people in our family were. Can I view electoral rolls for that area online? I don't live in London, and wouldn't know where to start to look if I went to their local library. |

Electoral Rolls and Post office directories are generally held at large central libraries near to the address concerned. When you have his death cert you should have a proper address for him even if he died in hospital (ie there should be his home address given too). Once you have this you at least have something to work on. I don't know how helpful London libraries are about doing lookups for people - maybe you can find some helpful soul (even through this site?!) who might be able to go and look, or try emailing the library. Electoral rolls will only show those eligible to vote in a household. Post Office directories will show the head of household. Generally these are held in book format and were produced annually, except for during WW2. So your father can remember the event well...........Pity they didn't take him to the funeral - he might have remembered more! The name sounds Jewish - if it is, where they practicing or a more secular family?? Or maybe they were Russian Orthodox or something similar?? I was just wondering where she might have been buried?? Do you know what happened to her husband's body? Merry |

They had only one child and he was born in 1906 at the same address. My dad can remember her death very clearly because his father (her son) cried and he had never seen him do so before. My dad was young, and he didn't go to the funeral, but he knew she lived in London. All of my grandad's family lived in London, apart from my grandad. My father remembers visiting her sister and other relations. I can only assume she registered her husbands death. I can also only assume she lived with him. I don't have his certificate, but will be getting it very shortly. Where exactly do I look for Electoral rolls? |

Did she register her husband's death?? Whether she did or not, was she supposedly living with her husband at the time? Could you check his ''normal address'' which should be on his death cert, to see how long she continued to live there? (Electoral Rolls for that one) Merry |

OK - so concrete facts. She had an address in 1905, a possible address in 1915 and your dad's memory........!! So 1) You could check Post Office Directories for either of the addresses you have. Might make sense to check out the 1915 one to see if their surname was recorded there and then see how many years they stayed if the address shows an entry. 2) When was her last child born? 3) Your dad. I assume he didn't go to the funeral?? Does he know if she died in hospital? Can he tie down either where in the country she was when she died or more clearly when it was........can he tie it in to what he was doing in his own life at the time?? Merry |

Ooh! I have her address when she married. But that was in 1905. Do they go that far back? I also found her husband on the trade directories for 1915, but I don't know whether he worked there or lived there. |

Hi, I'm sorry if I gave the impression I wanted people to pay for me. I meant can anyone tell me anything that could speed up the process. Would the FRC do requests on your behalf? There is the possibility she changed back to her maiden name, and both her husband and father in law were mistranscribed. I've also looked under Gold, as that is now the name used. I've looked under marriages for 1921-1931. Nothing. The only other family she had in London was her sister. My dad remembers her dying. But now I'm putting doubt to that as I can't find her. Do deaths have to be registered? |

I can't see how anyone can help you if it's just the death cert you are after....if you have looked already then others are not really going to want to spend their money doing the same lookups! So, there MUST be another way....... (did you save the pages, so you can check them again?? If you use Family Relatives for GRO lookups instead of 1837online, the site automatically saves everything you do so you can review as many times as you like! If you have to search again from scratch it's cheaper to do at any large library or Record Office that has the indexes on fiche/film) I remember you said before that she had been widowed a long time.....are you SURE she didn't remarry or change her name in some way? Is there any other way of linking her to an address at any date?? I was thinking if you knew an address she could be traced through the electoral rolls coming forward in time; that might at least eliminate some years. Still thinking................ Merry |

I need help trying to find my great grandma's death. Can anyone help me find BLOOMAH STUCKGOLD, born 1881, died circa early to mid 1960's in London. This is becoming increasingly hard for me and very expensive. I can't find her anywhere and I've widened my search by ten years either side. I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Kirsten |
