Dear Cutie - yes wondering about the children - they wouldn't have been that old - that's why I was hoping they might be there. Ellen died of 'disease of the womb' and exhaustion. I still think William was in the area though - especially as he married his second wife Caroline in Andover in 1878 - too much of a conicidence? m |

It's looking possible for this Ellen to be YOUR Ellen ... but I can't understand why the Landlady of the pub was so involved with the death ? What was Ellen's CAUSE of death ? And why did William and the kids go off and live in Lancashire ? ..... Elaine ;-) |

OK, have found the witness on the death cert ...... Charlotte Davis abt 1848 Andover, Hampshire, England Head 108 New Street (Blacksmiths Arms), Andover, Hampshire, England ......... WHAT number (address) did ELLEN die at on New St, does the death cert say ????? ... or could it be that Ellen died in the pub ? If the Landlady of the pub was with her when she died...and registered her death, sounds to me like THIS Ellen had no family near by ... but had obviously mentioned her hubby William ... Charlotte is a servant in 1881: Charlotte Ellen Kingston abt 1865 Bolton, Lancashire, England Servant 16, Great Bolton, Lancashire, England. Elaine :-) |

That must be them in 1861 .... this is the same family in 1871: William Kingston abt 1826 Andover, Hampshire, England Head Great Bolton Lancashire Ellen Kingston abt 1831 Ireland Wife Great Bolton Lancashire Henry Kingston abt 1854 Malta Son Great Bolton Lancashire John W Kingston abt 1863 Manchester, Lancashire, England Son Great Bolton Lancashire Charlotte E Kingston abt 1865 Farnworth, Lancashire, England Daughter Great Bolton Lancashire Now knowing that Charlotte was born c1865 ...it's unlikely to be her who registered the death in 1877 ... she would only have been 12ish ... and NOT married. ! |

Sorry Jess - thick as a brick this morning! 1861 census in Aldershot, 1871 census shows family in Bolton. By 1881 husband WIlliam is with second wife Caroline who he married in Andover in 1878. Ellen is listed on death certificate as wife of William and the witness is a Charlotte Davis (her mark) of New St who was present at the death. The one detail that niggles is the decription of William as a general labourer. In the 1871 census he is listed as a sergeant instructor of Volunteer Rifles and the 1881 census shows him as a army pensioner and collector for a local firm. Maria |

Ellen Kingston was 48 when she died in 1877. She appears on the 1871 census in Aldershot with her husband William Kingston. I was hoping that confirmation of other members of the household i.e. children John William Kingston and Charlotte would tell me it was definitely her. Best wishes Maria |

I've just received the death cert of my ggg grandmother and wondered if it was possible to check who lived at the address where she died to be certain that it's her. She died at New St, Andover, Hants in June 1877 and her name was Ellen Kingston. I've also acquired my great grandfather's Michael Flaherty's wedding certificate. His wife (Bridget Lonergan) had been married before and the certificate lists them as living at the same address(!!) 8 Heelis St, Manchester in 1905, Bridget is listed as widow and housekeeper. I'd be interested to find out who else was in the household as it appears she had 5/6 children prior to marrying Michael and I'd like to pin them down. Any thoughts/ assistance would be gratefully received. Many thanks. Maria Parkinson |
