Hi My name is Leeanne and i was wondering if anyone would help me to search for a wedding cert for my grandparents. The only thing is I dont know where or when they were married. The details i have are: - Grandfather :- John Alexander Campbell Cpl in Highland Light Infantry address when died was 529 Cowpen Road, Cowpen, Blyth, Northumberland. He was born in 1903 but i dont know where. Grandmother :- Norah Ellen Ratcliffe formerly Ready dont know date of birth but think its c1910 I do know she was brought up in the Cowpen area of Blyth because she attended Bebside Middle School with her siblings. I do know that my grandfather's family are all Roman Catholic as is my Grandmothers Please can someone help :)

When was the birth of their child? (The one who was your parent) You need to know that, plus whether he or she was the eldest, to give you some sort of time frame in which to work. Reg

Well I think its safe to say that John Alexander Campbell was more than likely born inScotland if the name is anything to go by and the fact he was in the Highland division. I searched for the name on Scotlandspeople site for years 1902-1904 and it came up with two hits, unfortunately I do not have credit with the site. Suzanne

Birthdates of children of this marriage will help to narrow this down, but if they aren't on Scotlands people they may have married in England and after 1910ish, its just a case of going through the marriage indexes until you find them. This can be a slog, I once looked for a marriage that I knew had taken place between 1901 and 1937. The couple didn't have any children, so I had no clue. I had 36 years and 4 quarters each year. I found it after 34 volumes!!!! nell

Thank you for all your help guys, if its any easier i know my Grandma died at Wansbeck/Ashington Hospital in 1993/5. Her surname when she died was Ratcliffe. My Grandfathers mother was Scottish-thats why he had Campbell as his middle name, but he was defintly married to my Grandmother in Northumberland. I just dont know where or when. My father is the eldest surving child, his name is John Alexander Ratcliffe. He was born at Dilston Hall on the 18 March 1946. My Grandparent had a set of twins that i think were born before my father but they died at about 6 weeks old in World War 2.

Hi Leanne In your original thread it does not say his surname was Ratcliffe...its reads as though his surname is Campbell. Please verify what his surname was? I know he married in Northumberland but thats not to say he wasn't born in Scotland? Suzanne

Hi Guys Just to say thank you for your help and to appologise, I didn't realise that i had missed his surname off the original message. Again i apologise. My Grandfathers name was John Campbell Ratcliffe. I know he had brothers called Alex and Louie, my Great Uncle Louie's surname was registered as Radcliffe by mistake when my Great Grandfather Registered the birth. I don't suppose there is any other info you can get for me? Or give me an idea where to look, I don't think im looking in the right places!

You have Nora's date of birth now.......it's on the death reg details. You need to find the birth on 1837online, which is pay-to-view, then when you have her birth cert, you will have the full names of her parents. You should then be able to find them in 1901, assuming they were both 21 or older when Nora was born. Reg
