Find Ancestors

Having just joined , i have seemed to have got very confused already. I am trying to find out about my grandfather , I have seen his death cert , stating that he was born in Birmingham in 1898 but after checking against the 1901 census i can't find any signs of this. The closest i can get is a John Luckett born 1900. Please could anybody give me any idea where i could get a copy of an original birth cert if this is possible or even of a marriage cert copy if i could find out the correct appropriate details. Would be very grateful for any advice offered.

Right, you have his death cert. what does it actually say about him. died where who reported his death how old was he when he died * have never yet seen a death cert that says where someione was born - i wish they did! in adition, where do you think he was born? and when? Jess

Thanks for the response given, the latest that i have found from the death cert for John Henry Luckett is, Date of death...19 June 1978 at Lilac Cottage, Chevington, Bury St Edmonds Suffolk. Birth date ... 17 April 1898 born Birmingham Death reported by Hazel Christine Stay ( daughter ) 12 Oxted Green, Milford, Surrey. where has his date of birt come from - is it a munus sum from the age he was when he died ? and birthplace ~ is that Birminhgham proper or one of the towns around that are now 'eaten' by BHam (aston or somewhere like that?) maybe you need to step back more slowly to be sure.when did he marry? - the cert for that will show his fathers name

Have just spoken to my father who is in possesion of cert , and have been told that the DOB and place of birth are written on the actual Death cert. Place of birth is listed as only Birmingham , no other place info. We also know that he married Mabel Mary Moss , but not sure of date, but their daughter Hazel Christine Luckett was born 16/02/1923 if that helps in any way ?

Date of birth appears on all death certs from the late 1960s - can't remember the exact year though:)

Hi Keith I checked for a marriage of John Luckett and a maiden name Moss from 1918-1920 and got no hits. If you wanted the marriage details you will probably find the marriage between 1920-1923 when their child was born (presuming this was their first child). This means having to trawl the images of indexes on one of the pay per view sites. Good luck. Suzanne p.s. I think you can safely say the birth for John was the one I found as above.
