I have found that my G/G/Grandfather William WYNNE b.abt 1814 was a Surgeon in London. In April 1844 he and his wife Sarah CARDINAL were living at Sylvan Grove, Old Kent Road, London. Sarah died in 1849 when they were residing at 5 Crown Place, Old Kent Road, London. William married again to Mary Ann SHARP in 1851 London. He died in 1862 at Loose, Maidstone, Kent. On the death certificate was: 'Signature, description and residence of informant - Charlotte GAMMON, Loose.' Possibly he was boarding there as he had a drinking problem - the cause of his death - and possibly his second marriage had broken up. I'm hoping that someone may find him on one or more of the census records, and any other information that may apply. He did have children but I have only found one (Kate) who was residing with an Aunt & Uncle. Other children were Emily, Cardinal & Watkin. Thanks for any help, Fran Wynne Have just found that Watkin Wynne who came to Australia wasn't our Watkin. If anyone can locate him for me it would be appreciated. He was born 1846, Rotherhithe, Surrey.

Paul, I think you are on the right track. Yes that is Kate, Williams daugter, residing with her mum's brother. Since I posted the message I have also found that he must have lived in Charlton Kent with his second wife Mary Ann as their daughter Annie Mary Wynne was born there. The Watkin you found is probably his son as he was born in 1846. I cannot find my G/Grandfather Cardinal b.1844 anywhere though. Cardinal came to Australia in 1866 and Watkin may have been with him because he ended up in Australia too. As far as William goes, yes I think he once was a wealthy man but the drinking probably got worse after the death of his first wife Sarah. Who would know. Unfortunately, the alcoholic gene has been passed down to a few descendants in Australia. Thankfully only a few. I really appreciate your help on this. Would be very grateful if you could find any more details. Maybe he was at Loose on a drinking binge when he died, but lived in Charlton. Cheers, Fran

Paul, ??Camberwell Workhouse?? Do you know what this is? We do have some knowledge that William did work at the Almshouses. I believe this to be a hospital for the poor. Cheers, Fran

Workhouses were institutions set up to house the homeless and poor, they were'nt very pleasant places to live in by all accounts. Google 'Camberwell Workhouse' You'll find lots to read there Paul

No Paul, not that I am aware. We think that William may have had a brother George Thomas Wynne b. about 1817. My Aunt gave me details that William's parents were also William & Sarah (nee Luck). Her details came from a cousin of hers who supplied IGI numbers, so hopefully they are the correct details. However, I have found a descendant of Kate's who thinks that William's parents were Peter Wynne & Mary Ann (Unknown). Stationers. He has yet to get back to me re confirmation. He did say that he had confirmed some details of what he had found but not all. The above may help a little more but the further back we go, the harder it is. Cheers, Fran
