Elaine & Bernice, I'm losing the plot ... must be too much Xmas pud! Of course you've already got 'im for me in '71. Aaargh! The only death record I have for a Kent BLUNT of the right profile is Sep 1907 Aged 70, Tonbridge 2a 385 (FreeBMD) ... that's why I'm suspicious about his wife's 2nd marriage, the PEMBERTON one. Bernice Thanks for that .... I hadn't expected to see him in Farnborough. Also, it appears then that he was in the FIRST Battalion Rifles - and checking my records, at the time of his son's birth in 1866, he was indeed in the 1st! Any sign of him in 1871? Kind regards Jane |

Hmmm ... wonder what happened there then? He didn't have a 'Mary' as a sister ... so, no easy explanation! Well done for finding him. Jx |

Elaine, That's fascinating ... so, he must have left the army by 1871 and become a butler! I hadn't expected that .... Thank you. Jx |

... Rosa is a new one on me too, and it probably explains why HF later called his daughter Rosa! |

Some more military info ... I think he was in the 4th Batt of the 60th Regt of Foot - ie The King's Royal Rifle Corps and have pasted their movements below: 1857.07.27 4th Battalion, 60th (The King's Royal Rifle Corps) Regiment of Foot re-formed at Winchester for service in Canada 1857 England 1860 Ireland 1861? at sea ship: Great Eastern 1861 Canada 1861.11 Trent Affair 1862 Canada Nova Scotia 1869 at sea 1869 England 1874 Ireland 1876 India 1881.07.01 4th Battalion, The King's Royal Rifle Corps 1881 Bengal 1885 Peshawar 1888 Chakratta 1890 Burma 1891 Burma 1892 England: Gosport 1895 Aldershot 1895.12 Gold Coast: Ashanti war (det) CompositeBn 1896.01? Aldershot? He would have been 50 in 1887, so I wonder if he was still serving by then .... his 'usurper' Charles PEMBERTON, allegedly his buddy, had left the Regt in 1875 after 21 years' service ... to marry HF's wife!! Henry Frederick BLUNT was born in Horsmonden, Kent in 1837 as the son of Samuel & Ann BLUNT (nee POPE) Henrietta, Elizabeth, Jonathon, Edmund and Harriet were his siblings. He married Caroline Maria RAYNER in Winchester in 1866 and they had 5 children. At that time, he was in the Royal Rifles (forerunner of Royal Green Jackets). However, in 1876, Caroline married a Charles PEMBERTON .... and I suspect that Henry/Frederick had not expired as she stated! There is a death record in 1907 (Kent) for 70 year old Henry/Fredk BLUNT .... no certificate yet, but I think it's him. Soooo-oo, I would be grateful for any supporting evidence. Seasons greetings - and thanks to you all. Jane x |
