Paul, have you got Hannah's birth certificate - is her DOB 16 August? Just found baptism for Ann Elizabeth WRIGHT in Hoo on 22 Sept 1901, parents George & Alice. (CityArk, Hoo St Werburgh) OK, Ann not Hannah, and Wright not Wraight - but gves you an idea what you're up against with the misspellings. |

Paul, (amended for correction) just a thought about the mistranscription possibility... the ref for Alice Baker is Dartford which would be the right district if she married near where she was born (and not the other side of the county) On FreeBMD there is a name missing from the list of options for this reference - there are 2 women & only one man shown. Might be worth contacting the KENT office (as on your other thread) and asking if they think the groom's name might be Wraight but mistranscribed in some way. At least you shouldn't have to pay for this! |

Paul, you have several options here. (amended posting for correction) FreeBMD & Ancestry aren't complete in their coverage, so you may have to go to a pay-per-view site like 1837-online or familyrelatives.org, and plough through the registers a year at a time. Or do this in person at your local records office if that's cheaper for you. If you dont find anything within about 1885-1901 it MAY be because there is an error in the GRO records & it never got sent in (as one of mine!) OR they got married abroad - again, 1837online have the GRO overseas records OR it is actually there but his surname is mistranscribed (quite likely I would have thought) OR they didn't actually marry. IF you're sure about her maiden name & still can't find them anywhere, it might be worth trawling the PR to see if something turns up. |

Paul In my posting I stated that I didn't know about the bride..........I suggested that you cross-refer yourself. Reg |

I just checked the Kent BMD too, and there is a marriage for Alice Baker in the same year, but its a different registration district, so obviously not the right one. How sure are you that her maiden name is Baker? |

Just thinking - 1901 census shows no kids, so its reasonable to assume they haven't been married long. But they are in their 30's - a bit old for newlyweds? Might he have been in the army or navy for a few years? So married abroad? |

did you know the parish registers for the Medway area are available on-line at http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/ look for the link to parish registers online in the menu box on the left They are not indexed so can be tedious to use but well worth it - I have found several generations of mine in the area. BTW I had a quick look at Hoo & didn't see any entries for George, but perhaps if you run out of other options it might be worth spending time looking more carefully. I have come across a couple of Wraights in Swanscombe - could be related? Place of birth on 1901 census looks like Greenstreet to me, best I can do for location is about halfway between Southfleet & Darenth, but I'm not sure which parish this comes under. |

Hi Paul www.freebmd.org.uk The above website is a free to search database for the BMD index. It's not complete but there is a section that tells you what has been transcribed and what is still being done. It gets updated every couple of months or so. It is a very useful site to use. Especially has you can do a search for a marriage using both names ! Esta |
