thank you both very much, i have tried BMD but no luck, more than anything i would love to find the birth of harold and his mariage to ivy, then i could buy the certificates, if i could find his birth then i should have more luck on his parents side of things. i have even seeked the help of a medium-who told me that harolds side could have been gypseys from morroco who moved to kent then on to essex!! is GRO the records office in london you have to visit?

harold william is one person, then, his brothers were frank, ronald, george and leslie. sister nora was 2yr old in 1901, sister dorothy was 1yr old in 1901. i have no date for the marriage of his parents samuel and elizabeth and indeed am not totally sure of his mothers name being elizabeth as this is just what my mother believes her name to be (not helpful i know!) Harold william and ivy had 12 children, but he left his wife ivy several times as it is believed he was misbehaving with another lady in london during his time served in the war so it is possible harold has more children in london.

so far so good-hopefully! sorry i have no record of samuel's (or is it george?) occupation nor of dorothy's 2nd name, only that she was also known as Doll and married Albert and lived at Laindon Hills essex at some point
