Hi can any-one look up Edward Simmonds, he was my g.grandad, his name was on my grandad's marrige cert. my grandad was Arthur Charles Simmonds & married Jessie Iddoles on 10/03/1913 at st. george in the east, london,adress given as 14 morgan st.It doesn't say deceased so Edward must have still been alive then. It was not necessarily the case that the father was still alive. It was only the case if the question was asked that he would be marked down as deceased or if the person afficiating the marraige knew the family and knew the person to be deceased. There are many Arthurs Simmonds on the 1901 census. One Arthur born 1892 with father Edward and mother Catherine with all his siblings. Living in Hackney and the father was a provisiosn traveller. Can you post details of Edwards occupation which should be on the marriage certificate. Also Arthurs age at marriage.

FROM JACKIE:I have Jessie's age as 21 but she wasn't 21 until 27/03 1913 as I have her birth cert. & Arthur 's age say's 23 whether that was right? Zoe

Hi every-one I forgot to say that a cousin told me Arthur died 11/11/1937, as his mum told him but is vauge about anything else, I don;t know if this help's. Jackie

Well I think if someone can lookup his death it may give his birth date and help us narrow it down Zoe

Jackie if you post the info on Louise's board of BMD Lookups she will get the death cert details for you, Cannot find a Arthur Charles birth at the moment but found a few Arthurs get her to do the lookup and then see what his birth year is. Zoe

FROM YOUR POST ON LOUISE'S BOARD Added by Louise Preece on 30/12/2005 10:35:06 Hi Jacqueline on page 9, I found one death for an Arthur C SIMMONDS as follows in 1937: Dec 1937 - Arthur C. SIMMONDS - aged 49 - Stepney 1c 187 so that would make his birth year 1888 ish. I searched all births for an Arthur Charles SIMMONDS between 1887 and 1889 inclusiive and couldn't find one! Athur everything else, but not Arthur Charles lol! Let me know if you'd like me to search anything else for you. Take care, Louise

Hi Zoe, I am even more confused than befofe now, Louise has said their was only 1 death for a Arthur Charles Simmonds 1937 & he was aged 49 so that would mean he was born around 1888 ish & that would mean he was 16 when he got married not 23 I know they used to lie about their age but Louise has said she has searched all birth record's for 1887 & 1889 & couldn't find 1, a lot of Arthur's but not Arthur Charles, do you think they alway's would have put middle names? he must have been born around 1888 because of death cert. but I think the only Arthur with a Edward as father was born 1892 with mother Catherine as I cannot find another Arthur with a farher Edward, I'm going crazy with this one, any ideas. Jackie Also I'm getting worried as I have been in touch with someone from that family above (Edward & Catherine's family) and have said yes it is my family, now I'm not sure, wish I hadn't spoke to them yet. Hi Jackie He may have lied have seen it many times before but if you have contacted the people and they have said it is him, I would then try to get the birth cert for the 1892 Arthur as this is the only Arthur with an Edward as you stated but it may be worth waiting to see if anything else can be found out, Sometimes it gets confusing because all the info is not correct but perseverence is the key. Maybe as Louise to find the birth reg for Arthur 1892 as you should know where he states he was born due to census. And No they did not always register with middle name they could have just added that later down the line. Sorry could not help more but maybe an idea will come Zoe
