Hi, can anyone help, what I have is my grandad Arthur Charles Simmonds, according to his marrige cert.to my nan Jessie Iddoles on 10/03/1913 at st.george in the east he was 23 year's old which would mean he was born about 1890ish, but I cannot find him, on his marrige cert. it say's his father's name was Edward, and now I have found out from a cousin he had 2 brothers called Joe & Harry & a sister called Rose. Can anyone find this family?. Also it say's on cert. Arthur was a carman & Edward a Engineer. Jackie

Hi Suzanne, Thank-you but their was no Arthur Charles only a Charles & their was no brother Harry, their was a rose & a joe & mary was born last & the father edward was right, oh sorry i've just seen charles is Arthur charles but I was convinced they came from east london where my dad was born because Arthur got married east london. Jackie Also that would mean on his marrige cert. he put age as 23 but he would have been 27? Jackie

Hi Jackie You will learn that all ages and areas change over time. Just because someone married in a certain place doesn't necessarily mean that that is where they came from. Also ages can vary considerably on all different things such as certificates and censues returns. NEVER take it as read that the age given on a certificate is their true age. or even that their name is correct. lol...sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that is what it is like. Suzanne P.s. Louisa is the mother. and if you check the birth entry I posted earlier for an Arthur Charles Simmonds born Kensington is gives his birth year as c1885/6. Also Harry (Which is more likely to be Henry as Harry is a term of endearment for henry) may have been born after 1901. There is also something going on with this family as there is a huge age gap between Charles and the other children and they cant not be found on the 1891 census.

Hi Suzanne, I understand what you are saying but very careful now as I thought I found the family already & had been in touch when it turn's out to be the wrong one's & i've had to apolagise, it's so difficult isn't it. Thank's so much. Jackie

There is a Edward Simmonds marrying Louisa Matilda Chase in June 1885 at Bethnal Green which would tie in with the Louisa as mother that has been found in the census. Good Luck Irene

Hi Suzanne, Sorry I meant 1891, why do you think they cannot be found, have you ever came across this before, any idea's. Also you said their was a big gap between Arthur & the rest of the children well 9 year's, it was the same with my father also called Arthur Charles Simmonds, he was born 1913 & the rest of his siblings (6 more) from 1920. Hi Jackie Now thats a good example of why you shuldnt take things for granted...lol look at the differences on the transcripts on both 1891 and 1901 census....and yet its the same family. Suzanne By the Way Well Done for finding them!
