Sorry about the slip up about Journeyman. I meant travelling sales man, peddler etc. Jo

Just to point out that a journeyman was somebody who worked for his employer in the daytime and went home at night, so if he was a journeyman he would have been at home for the census! Kate.

Many thanks for that. It may be a search through 1837 for those Catherines marriage's. I am not convinced freeBMD is 100%. I will hold out for now and await the birth certificate of Alice. I will let you know how we get on. Many thanks for all your advice. Jo

I've managed to get on FreeBMD and have looked for all the Catherine marriages between 1881 - 1890 .... none are showing with CRAVEN ... back to drawing board ..... whilst you decide whether a birth cert is on order ! Elaine ;-)

Hi Jo ... I'm currently trying it from another angle ! 1881 has 3 Catherine's b Surbiton 1861 +/- 2 yrs. Catherine Allen b 1861 daughter, unmarried Catherine Richardson b 1859 daughter, unmarried Catherine Rose b 1859 daughter, unmarried It may help to either: a) Look for a possible marriage between Catherine Allen - Craven Catherine Richardson - Craven Catherine Rose - Craven B) Check 1891 to see if any of the above are still unmarried !........ I have noticed that on the 1891 census, Catherine has the middle initial T ..... so a look on FreeBMD (when its working properley) for a Catherine T ? b 1859 - 1863 Surbiton (2a) MAY throw up another 'possible' for Catherine's maiden name. Just a thought .... but a load of time and patience required ! Elaine ;-)

Thanks for the birth information. Will keep it in hand. Have managed to trace the birth of Alice- Wandsworth Sept 1888 1d/697 and hoping that will give the fathers name. If not your posts will be useful. Jo

Catherine and the children are alone on the census's. Which means nothing as he could have been at sea or a journeyman. Just can't track him. Jo
