... But in the meantime, I don't quite see what use the list of Emilys from 1881 will be, I thought you already had her in 1881? and she got married in 1882??? Perhaps a list of Emilys from 1891 would be more use? Kate.

Unfortunately for us, Family Relatives appear to be right as the names on the FreeBMD image go from Durant to Durbin. So either the surname has been mistranscribed, or the date has been put up wrong, or it is a birth or a death! I'll be back if and when I manage to track it down... Kate.

Hmmm... the entry doesn't appear under transcribed births or deaths or marriages for any other quarter or year on FreeBMD, but I haven't got time to look through any more images tonight. Maybe when ancestry's new BMD database is available it will become clear? It doesn't seem possible that this entry could have been made up completely, so it must be mistranscribed in some way, but how? Searching for volume 4a and page 547 on FreeBMD for Mar 1882 we get some births in the Dunmow district, and some deaths in the Mutford district, and apart from Emily only one marriage, in the Risbridge district (not in italics). Searching for district Saffron Walden volume 4a and page 547... these are the events that are transcribed with that combination at the moment: Marriages Sep 1859 Births Sep 1860 (but district is in italics) Marriages Sep 1865 Marriages Jun 1866 Marriages Sep 1866 Marriages Sep 1869 Marriages Jun 1870 Marriages Jun 1871 Marriages Mar 1882 (the spurious Emily one only) Births Jun 1882 Births Sep 1882 Births Jun 1883 Marriages Mar 1885 Births Jun 1888 (in italics) Deaths Mar 1892 so my money would be on the marriage being Mar 1885, if it weren't for the fact that there are already 5 entries there! (two of them are likely for the same person, but none is anything like your Emily). If nobody has sorted this one out by tomorrow I'll have another try... Night. Kate.

Did as you suggested and starting followign from 1891 backwards. Success!! LOL. Just goes to show that people on same page of marriage entries from BMD sites are not necessarily the spouse! I'm very glad it was sorted out, but I'm still puzzled by that FreeBMD marriage entry. Perhaps the surname is mistranscribed, or perhaps the original GRO index is out of sequence? I'm going to have another look at the images now that we know the quarter seems to be correct. Kate.

Found it on the FreeBMD images: Marriages Mar 1882 DUBERY, Emily Rebecca Saffron W. 4a 537 You might think it is easy to type Durbery instead of Dubery, but the FreeBMD transcription software should have flagged it up as out of sequence, unless it is different for transcribing from microfiche? Anyway, I will post up a correction to it on FreeBMD so nobody else has the same problem. I will also have a look at the entries either side of it to see if they are correct. FreeBMD are having all entries 'double-keyed' eventually, so that this entry would have been corrected in the end but it takes time! Kate.
