Hi, Come to a dead end with my line of LUMBS and I need to find out who my g.g.grandfather JOHN LUMB married in c 1843 , she was an Elizabeth but plenty of John Lumbs were married around this time to several Elizabeths?? This will also enable me to find out JOHNS parents , he was born 1820 in Barkisland but have been very unsuccessful in finding out who his parents are . Can I find out any more details apart from freebmd , Ancestry etc. Cannot go to records office etc as I live abroad. Is there anyone who can help? Please. |

Did they have children ? .. if so, a childs birth cert will give Mum's maiden name. This will narrow down any search for the parents marriage. Elaine ;-) If you have them as a family on any early census ... tell us where and when ......... |

Well as they both comes from Barkisland and their children wree born there is makes sense that the marriage was in the Halifax distict (This narrows it down a bit). There is a marriage in 1842 to Elizabeth Binns. Suzanne |

Collect all Elizabeth's married to John Lumb in halifax and ask someone to check the 1841 census to see if there are Elizabeth's of those names living in Barkisland. (i.e. Elizabeth Binns) Suzanne |

If there are several marriages of John Lumbs and Elizabeths, your only hope really is the birth cert of one of the children. Unfortunately, registration wasn't compulsory until 1875, so the births may not appear in the GRO records. Reg |

If you obtain the birth cert, it will have mum's maiden name......from that, you can find the marriage, which will, in turn, tell you John's father's name and occupation. That might help to trace his birth............. Reg |

Thanks for info I will try and obtain one of the childrens birth certs but that is only going to give me the mum Elizabeths maiden name and then if I can then find the marriage certificate of John & Eizabeth did they ,in approx 1840s ,have to give the grooms parents name ???? Thanks Pauline |

Hi Pauline, When you find the right marriage certificate it will only give the fathers name(if there was one) but that will hopefully narrow the search down. With any luck the wittnesses names may be of help also, might be a brother or sister. If there is no fathers name that will also help as you know you'll be looking for just a mother in the parish records. |
