Hi Joan I have sent you a PM. I am unsure what you require. I did post a message on the last board too. I am unsure what poor law records are for certian. Or Bastardy bond records. Or where the wills are kept. I'm afraid you will have to enlighten me. Jo |

Sam from Stoke The parish records for Mentmore end in 1840 so I cannot check for their baptisms. However the banns were filmed. The banns for Joseph Willis and Mary Ann Smith were called on 18/2 - 25/2 and 4/3 1949. It further states that they married in Leighton Jo |

Hi Jill Kiddle I deleted the previous posts as people were adding to it after I had been so I started a new one as I was getting confused. I did respond but must have deleted it before you looked. The records for North Crawley are fully transcribed from 1565 to 1885. There is also an index of names and where they apear in the transcripts, There are no Surrudge, Surrey, Surrey or anything like I'm afraid. So they may have been christened in a near by village. Sorry Jo |

Elaine Mardling James was christened 18/11/1818 as you said William and Elizabeth were married as you said and to me her name looked like harper with a small h. Looking at the possible births in the correct time frame they are: Purcell 22/2/1783 Major 3/10/1779 James 23/1/1780 Seare 18/2/1785 Travers 11/10/1783 Sorry I cannot help further. If the above names ring any bells, I have the parents names. Jo |

Thanks Jo If you get chance, could you check some baptisms for me? All in Mentmore, Bucks (St Mary?) Ellen Willis c1860 Mary Willis c1864 George Willis c1866 Alice Willis c1868 Louisa Willis 31 March 1871 Any other Willis you see. And a marriage? Joseph Willis to Mary Ann? Sometime around 1848-1849 but don't worry too much about that one if you don't have time or can't find it, it could have been in Leighton Buzzard. Thanks Sam x |

Hi Jo!! Could you check the poor law records & Bastardy bonds/records (not sure what they're called!) for Joseph PUTTENHAM /PUTTNAM / PUTNAM / VERE (these names have been used by him at some point!!) His mother was Alice who gave birth to Joseph in 1761, no father named in Parish records. Could you have a look for a will for him too, he died in 1816. If you get a chance to look in the wills & you have time could you look to see if there was a will for a male VERE who could have been the father of Joseph. No idea when but around 1760-1800. Thanks for your offer. This is a huge brick wall for me, a will could prove a breakthrough if I can find his father. Joan |

Thankyou for this kind offer.. I'm looking for ALLDEN SAMUEL PETTS b~1830 in Newport Pagnell, Bucks. In 1851 census he was registered with grandmother LUCY WARD (widow) b~1779 in Newport Pagnell. She was a grocer and living 141 Green End, Newport Pagnell. Also there was a grandaughter Sophia Petts b~1833 Newport Pagnell (probably Allden's sister) If you could find Allden on 1841 census (hopefully with his parents) and Lucy Ward it would be a great help. Thankyou julie xxx |
