Elaine, I don't mean to silly but what is an old hat, I think you mean I am ok at at it but I am not and I wouldn't have got as far as I have without all your help. I really mean that and want to thank everyone. My head is not as good as a lot of heads and when I ask its just that I can't see beyond the letters and need help. I hope you don't stop as I appreciate it so much and need it. All my family seem to not want to be found any way. Thanks all Zoe x

Hi Georgina, Yep ... I went on IGI 1881 census and searched for James with father Henry. Bought up a few 'possible's but since none of the James's were actually born in 1871 ... and because we don't actually know when or where Henry was born, I didn't like to start throwing 'further' problems into the ring !! I fancied the 'Hawker' Henry (don't know why !!) but I do know that Zoe is an old hat with Genealogy, so I will leave my best wishes on this thread !.......and keep my fingers well and truely crossed for a miraculous sign from somewhere ! Nite all Elaine ;-)

Oh Zoe, I don't envy you at all with this dilemna. S'pose there is more than just a few James Hawkins born during 1871 as well ... so that would cost a fortune. Any witnesses on his Marriage cert that could give a clue ? Elaine ;-)

Hi Georgina, James was a hall porter when he got married but I do know they lived in the Royal Insurance Buildings in Sheffield, so maybe a change of job from when he was younger. Not really a profession. Hi Elaine, I have seen another Henry on the census from Alton and ruled him out. Maybe if I could find James birth details would be able to trace his parents but don't know where he was originally from. Oh hard work, eh Zoe :))
