Think your getting my meaning wrong again , more than one way to skin a cat. There's no guarantee she appears on any census with her second husband after all but we did know she was married previously. I had the 2 names a rough idea of where and when just thought it was the easiest and quickest request as i wanted it for certificate purposes I have since looked myself and indeed could not locate her with the second husband I certainly do not underestimate Genes members and you have both helped with my requests on many occasions, and as i said in my previous posting Thank you. Regards Mike |

Michael Sorry I don't understand what do you mean that some people only think there is one person of that name!! As I said before the censuses give you a idea of the people you are looking for. Nearly everyone uses censuses to track them and from that info they then are able to find BMD certs that match their people.. I presume you have access to all the censuses and know how to find your relatives when you look for them! Regards Zoe |

Marriage June Qtr 1856 Liverpool 8b 24 Thomas Brockbank Ellen Dallis Now i know the correct people to look for on the census Tried the other way and the majority of the time it's ok,but on occasions sends you miles down the wrong track ,people for some reason on occasions think that the ' NAME ' that you are looking for is the only one that exists.Funnily enough one in question was Ellens second husband. Thank you all once again Regards Mike |

Michael It is much easier to trace the births and marriages of families if you follow them through the censuses. Then you have years and birth places to guide you. So the best thing to do is look through all the censuses until you find her as a Brockbank then you will find husbands christian name. And then that should make it easier to find marriage. Then you will have her fathers name then you should be able to catch her with family in the 1841/1851 census. Hope this makes sense you need a trail to lead back.... Most people use the censuses so they can order the certs according to the info they can get from them. Then you know you are on the right trail to order the correct certs if not it's hit and miss!! Regards Zoe |

The point of finding them in the census is that you will learn the birthplace and age of Ellen, which you say you do not know. As most women married in their home town, it would make looking for her first marriage a bit easier........... Reg |

I'm sorry everybody appears to be miss reading the request I am not looking for the second husband or the daughter, i know these i have the certificate dated 1865 i am trying to find her previous marriage prior to this date ( 1865 ),as i stated in the posting. For the record her second husbands name was Samuel Dawson, and it was him who i was originally following to gain the cert in the first place, It is Ellen Dallas's marriage i was trying to locate to a ?????? Brockbank ( The spelling on the cert ) as it was her name's and previous marriage that were the surprise. Sorry about any confusion caused Regards Mike |

Mike I think you need to find them in 1881, which is free on www.familysearch.org Then you can give a bit more in the way of detail which will be helpful. Reg |

Have you tried FREEBMD ? With the surname Brockbank ...it's likely to be transcribed. Her age should be on the 1871 census. ( to find Year of birth) |
