Jill, I'm afraid I couldn't find any Fred'k Hirst or Shaw. I check all Huddersfield Parish registers for 1870 - 1880. Fern, also, nothing to report I'm afraid. I check Kirkheaton from 1870 - 1885. I think he may have been illegitimate, but there is nothing to confirm this.

Tom, I'm afraid I couldn't find your John. Lindley Parish records only start at 1830. I did check up to 1831 there. I also checked Huddersfield, St Peters, from 1828, but I couldn't see him.

Hi Tracey, Thanks for the offer this is very kind of you. I'm looking for a famous person so this might be easier to find (but saying that researching your tree is never easy). George Herbert Hirst born 7th September 1871. He played cricket for Yorkshire and England and is the only player to score 1000 runs and to take 1000 wickets in a season. He was born in Kirkheaton, Yorkshire. I have thought about ordering his birth certificate but there are two to choose from in the September quater. He married Emma Kilner before 1901 and on his marriage certificate there is no father's name given. The reason I wish to find out more information on George is that my great granny always said that he was her first cousin but I have to prove this. I would love to know any details so I can make a link to my tree. Many thanks again. Fern.

Adding to keep all requests together... From : Jill Subject : Fred Hirst Shaw Hello, please could you try and find the parents of my great grandfather? Apparently he was an orphan who later lived with his grandfather and his grandfather's stepsister Emma Fawcett. I wonder whether he was actually born Fred Hirst and the name Shaw added later? He is listed on the 1881 census as a 10 yr old at Greenhead Road, Huddersfield. So his birth year would be circa 1871. I would love to know who's child he was. He became a very successful man in Huddersfield with a large family of his own, but died at the age of 58 when my mother was only 4. On the 1891 census he was still at Greenhead Road with Emma Fawcett and Thomas Shaw. Thank you for offering to help but I know it's a tall order. Jill

Richard Report 14 Feb 2006 12:18

Hi Tracy Thanks for offer.ing. I am looking for the marraige record of BENJAMIN HAIGH and ELEANOR GARSIDE - my grandparents - sometime between 1910 & 1921. To clarify- Benjamin was first married to Lily Garside - Eleanors elder sister. I have their certificate dated 10.7.1910, Huddersfield Register Office. I am assuming Lily died, but dont know when. Eleanor died just after my mother Hilda was born on 21.6.1921. She was 29. My mother had two older siblings Albert Haigh and Nellie (Eleanor?) Haigh, but we are not sure which of the sisters was their mother. If it helps both Benjamin & Eleanor were born and brought up in Almondbury. I d be grateful for any records you could discover and hope it s not too tall an order. Regards Sue

I am planning to visit Huddersfield this weekend, so if you want a lookup, please post here with as many details as you can. Most things are not indexed, so please include parishes if known.
