The age fits better with this death, but it is later than you said he died, and again, in a funny place: Deaths Dec 1898 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gill Absalom 79 Skipton 9a 32 Kate.

I found this: Gill Absalom age 82 Dudley 6c 13 Death Q4 1878 The age is not correct, and Dudley is away from where he normally resided, but could there be two of them? I had a relative who died in Wales, but normally lived in London - she had been sent away to a hospital. Also, who ever registered his death could have got his age wrong. Suzy

You should still check that Absalom's father's name on his marriage certificate is Charles, though! To make sure you don't set off on completely the wrong lines... Kate.

Margeret If you look at Absolem on the 1871, the place of birth actually says Painswick, so I think we have our man. Have you found him on any other census? The 1871 seems a bit confusing vis-a-vis his children and step-children. Am trying to work out when he may have married. Suzy

Suzy

Suzy Report 17 Feb 2006 19:16

Kate I thought that too. Maybe the 1779 date is Mary's year of birth. Suzy

Kate

Kate Report 17 Feb 2006 19:12

Sorry, so they got married in 1779 and they had a child in 1821? Does not compute... That is another LDS member entry and should be taken with a pinch of salt! Kate.

Kate

Kate Report 17 Feb 2006 19:11

Oh, I had a look and both those baptisms are 'form submitted by a member of the LDS church', so you definitely need to check the parish records. Am I right in thinking that Absalom would have got married after 1837? If so, then you should be able to get his marriage certificate, which would confirm his father's name. Kate.

Kate

Kate Report 17 Feb 2006 19:08

My guess would be that the two Absaloms are the same one, perhaps the first date is a private baptism and the second date when he was 'brought to church'? A check of the parish records would confirm this. Kate.
