no Hersall (Horsall probably) is a place in Surrey MMn is Crosby father William Mitchell mother Catherine nee Crosby they married in 1882 Mayline 6th out of 9 - found all the others

Jess Really, you must have more patience. Ive only just seen this message!!! I had a look at the original image and its just possible her name was Maybeline/Maybelline though hard to tell. Birthplace is given as Hersell Com. Do. The Do for ditto is written underneath Chobham Chobham. Presumably the enumerator had had a bit of sherry before he filled it in. The actual address is in Upper Norwood Ward. I know Croydon, but I don't know where Hersell Com. is - I am guessing Com might be an abbreviation of Common. Just looking on registration districts in Surrey now, I found this: Chertsey Created 1st July 1837. Sub-districts : Chertsey; Chobham; Walton GRO volumes : IV (1837-51); 2a (1852-1930). Bisley, Byfleet, Chertsey,***** Chobham, ****Horsell,***Pyrford, Thorpe (from 1895), Walton upon Thames, Weybridge, Windlesham. Registers now in North Surrey district. Suggestive, hmn!

they had an Eleanor in 1901 both Mayline and Eleanor lived, so although May Eleanor might be, i'd doubt it kate, she is one of 9 , her brother went on to have 13, i have aunts and uncles coming out of my earholes. we dont have a family tree , its a ruddy forest!!

According to ancestry's copy of the FreeBMD database there are no Maybellines at all. There are a very few Maylines, but none are Mitchells or anything like, and none in Surrey either. I wonder if it was some kind of nickname? But then why would they put her middle initial of J? Had a look at all the Mitchells born in Chertsey around then on FreeBMD, but none of them looked likely. This is the nearest I can come up with via FreeBMD, but I haven't trawled through the images of the indexes, as they take too long to load on my computer using ancestry. Guildford isn't too far from Horsell if they were just over the boundary or something. I don't think the age would be quite right, though, would it?
