Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 20 Feb 2006 21:35

Ready to throw the towel in with this one My great grandfather Henry Fellows 1874 BIRMINGHAM West Midlands England Have this confirmed with census and sons marriage cert and wifes death cert. His siblings on the census are Charlotte Fellows 1879 SHEFFIELD South Yorkshire England Frank Fellows 1881 SHEFFIELD South Yorkshire England George Fellows 1891 SHEFFIELD South Yorkshire England Thomas Fellows 1885 SHEFFIELD South Yorkshire England Believe that this is his father ( checked census in 1901 and correspondes with marriage cert of my g/grandad showing address and occupation of father) Henry Fellows 1849 BIRMINGHAM West Midlands England Family all together in 1891 on census and Henry senior above is in workhouse in 1881 but no sign of children or wife Emma ( maiden name ??) Would send for more certs but have no definate dates to go on. Advice needed or help to find ( searched IGI, ancestry, googled names, etc etc) Thanks in advance Iknow some of you have helped before with this one but thought one last go was worth trying before I finally give up

Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 20 Feb 2006 22:01

Yes can't find them in 1881 and can't find the marriage of Henry senior to wife Emma And can't find births of the children Driving me up the wall, begining to think that none of the children ( my great granddad included, Henry born 1874 ) are actually Fellows but unless I can find a bit more info I'm well and truly stuck. My Mum will be LOL from up above if she know's that I'm stuck, she was the last of the fellows and I bet she knew about this.

Henry the father is, as you say, in the workhouse in 1881. I think this is the entry for Emma and son Henry (Harry), although it's a bit strange Henry Fellows abt 1875 Birmingham, Warwickshire, England Son (Head) 3 House Ct 3 Hollis Croft, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Emma Fellows abt 1868 Birmingham, Warwickshire, England Daughter (Sister) 3 House Ct 3 Hollis Croft, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Ref is RG11/4646 Registration district: Sheffield Sub-registration district: North Sheffield ED, institution, or vessel: 22 Folio: 137 Page: 3

Helen, If you look under the two children Henry and Emma they have a lodger Emma Hall 32 b sheffield with her son Frank Hall age 4 months. Could this be the family with an additional sibling Emma, and the mother Emma down as Hall? Was this her maiden name ? Elaine x.

Found this on the 1881. Emma Fellows abt 1868 Birmingham, Warwickshire, England Daughter (Sister) 3 House Ct 3 Hollis Croft, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Henry Fellows abt 1875 Birmingham, Warwickshire, England Son (Head) 3 House Ct 3 Hollis Croft, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Emma Hall abt 1849 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Lodger (Head) 3 House Ct 3 Hollis Croft, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Frank Hall abt 1881 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son 3 House Ct 3 Hollis Croft, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England I have a feeling that Emma is a second wife. Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 20 Feb 2006 22:38

Oh my god I'vhe been looking at that record with them in 1881 for 6 months and could not link it to my family!!!! Emma is the second wife, her son them has his name changed from Hall to Fellows Why did Henry leave the kids whilst he went into the workhouse ?? So Great uncle Frank Fellows isn't a Fellows But what about Charlotte born 1879, with the name Fellows where is she, Charlotte married a Parkin!!

Rosemary

Rosemary Report 20 Feb 2006 23:00

I have the impression that Henry Sr couldn't take his children to the workhouse so he left them in the care of Emma Hall. I think it's funny that Henry Jr is listed first in the household. I wondered where Charlotte was also. Maybe she was born Charlotte Hall. Found this birth record: Charlotte Hall Sept Qtr 1878 Sheffield Vol 9c Pg 437 Another thing is where is daughter Emma Fellows? I can't find her on the 1871. On the 1871 there is a Henry Fellows born 1849 in Birmingham with wife Mary Ann and a daughter Sarah born 1870 in Birmingham. Can't find a birth for Emma Fellows. From Free BMD Births Dec 1880 HALL Frank Sheffield 9c 456 Rose

Just been on ancestry to try and get some answers I think Charlotte is a Hall and not a Fellows! Don't know where Emma goes in later census Think I may have found Henry Sr in Birmingham in 1851 and 61 with parents and siblings Wellesley, Samuel, William Can't find a marriage for Emma Hall and Henry or a first marriage for Henry. Mmm - my side is ok as we come directly from Henry the son - so our name is defiantly Fellows, Will keep going with this one, more determined than ever but soooooo great to have got answers to some questions Thanks thanks thanks

Yes I have seeen that one but as far as I can remember Emma Probert and that Henry Fellows stayed together and had more children - someone else on GR has them in their tree and we have tried to connect before but with no luck
