Hi I'm looking for any information on Jane Whitehead born c1830s Possibly from Rumworth Bolton or surrounding areas. I know she had at least one son John born c1853. She is thought to have had John before she married. I'm trying to find her parents/siblings mainly but any help with possible matches gratefully accepted Thanks Irene

Have you found her on any census? If you find her and can then match her to a marriage, you can buy her marriage cert and that will give you her fathers name and occupation.

Was Whitehead her maiden surname? If so, what was her married name? Reg

As far as I know Jane was unmarried when she had my g+grandad so her maiden name would have still been Whitehead. She was definately from Bolton maybe Rumworth, Little Lever, Darcy Lever, area, as alot of our family were born there, as well as the surrounding areas. I have never heard of any of them coming from the yorkshire area. Also I'm assuming she would have been born in the 1830s maybe even earlier as I am being generous and assuming she became pregnant around 20ish, and also as her son John Whitehead is down as being born 1851in Rumworth Bolton. She was still living with her parents while pregnant and possibly even after. I know that her son John married Elizabeth Lord then they had a son Harold b 1878, then Elizabeth died in childbirth aged 27, in 1880/81. I can't seem to find out if Jane married at a later date or who her parents/siblings were. I can't see her being an only child as all our Whiteheads tended to have large families. I don't know where else to look as this is all the info I have on her. I have some info from John Whitehead down but not much. Irene

Hi reggie The John Whitehead you have included which says church on it........... would that mean a church record? My John is said to have been born in a cottage at 159 Darcy Lever Hall Farm Yards Bolton. On the 1891 census which someone kindly found for me, he is down as aged 40 and as a coal miner living with his son harold aged 13. His wife Elizabeth died c1880 giving birth. I never thought to ask if anyone could trace him back on any earlier census' Irene

I've deleted the list..having found the family in 1851. To answer your question about 'church'...........Church is a place in Lancashire. Reg

Hi reggie the 1851 does look promising, if it is our Jane then we didn't know she had a older child. we have a few James, and at least 3 Harolds, I'm wondering if she was lodging at the Thomasons with the Harold mentioned(also lodger) but they didnt marry, or maybe they married at a later date? Maybe one of the Thomasons were a family member? I appreciate your help.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 22 Feb 2006 15:15

There isn't anyone named Harold listed on 1851. Reg

Irene

Irene Report 22 Feb 2006 15:19

that definately looks like the right ones on the census' which means that Elizabeth must have died either late 1881 early 1882? Also Breightmet is within walking distance of Darcy Lever. Maybe she worked there. We have always 'assumed' that Jane came from around that area as we seem to have lived there for generations, maybe she was actually originally from Harwich? Thanks so much for all the help, I don't think I would have been able to find them on my own as I don't have access to any of the census' etc.

Just to clarify one little point...the birthplace for Jane and James is actually Horwich........Ancestry have mistranscribed it. Nothing new there, then! Reg
