Hi Michael, If your grandparents died between 1984 and 2002 their death indexes will be on ancestry. On the index will be a date of birth, hopefully it will be about right! From that you should be able to find a birth index to locate the birth certificate. Thinking you might be quite new and not knowing if you've added to a thread before.........to add more information for us to try and help click on the 'add reply' above your message.

All I have to go on are the two names on my mums birth cert and an Address which led to a dead end my mum was 3 in 1932 I have no dates to go on

You need to search the marriage index for the marriage of the parents.........the cert will tell you how old each of them was at the time, together with the names and occupations of each of their fathers. You say you have no dates, but you've got the birth cert.........there's a date on that! If your mum was 3 in 1932, clearly she was born 1928/9, although the birth cert tells you that, anyway........look for a marriage which pre-dates her birth, and hope that the parents did things the 'right' way round!! Thus, you will be able to work backwards.......... Reg

Fiona

Fiona Report 1 Mar 2006 14:17

Hi Michael, You need to get the marriage certificate which will have their ages at the time of marriage and their fathers names, from that you should hopefully be able to trace their births. You can order the certificate online at http://www(.)gro(.)gov(.)uk/gro/content/ REMOVE BRACKETS.
