Hi Georgina! I found another lot of Dowlings - John born Castle Connell Ireland and Mary A born Dublin Ireland - in 1881 living in Camberwell. He is a British Army pensioner. This is f-i-l's family and he sez that his gt grandfather (Francis' father) was from Ireland. Apparently Francis told him so. I think I was so excited by the Army bit (and possiblities from there) that I got a bit carried away with myself. I really will wait now until the cert comes I think, as otherwise I am going to be guessing and hunching. Thank you so very much for your help - I will remember to come back on the thread and let you know the outcome! Maz. XX |

Actually I'd better look again as I have different parents for Francis! I have now ordered his birth cert too. ok there seem to be 2 possible J W Dowlings - this will have to wait until birth cert comes with father's occupation. We were told that John was born in Ireland - the one that Georgina has found wasn't and neither was his father (1861 census) so what a quandary lol!! Must be patient!! Maz. XX |

Georgina you are a star!! I was going to try and find how the Naylor's linked in today. I imagined John and Mary Ann getting married in Ireland as they were both born there - well according to 1881/91 that I have! There is another Dowling/Naylor marriage later and one of Francis' sons has it as a middle name! Thank you sooooo much!! Maz. XX ps I still wonder where he is in 1891 though!! |

I'm looking for Francis John Dowling, born 1875 in Peckham (Surrey I believe at the time). I have him in 1881 with grandmother (Caroline Naylor) and with his wife in 1901 (in Walthamstow). I have parents and rest of family in 1891 (in Camberwell). Please can anyone find him?! Thank you! Maz. XX |
