For reference 1871 Alfred Cotton abt 1856 Salford, Lancashire, England Son Salford Elizabeth Cotton abt 1829 Manchester, Lancashire, England Wife Salford William Cotton abt 1823 Bamburgh, Northumberland, England Head Salford William Cotton abt 1854 Salford, Lancashire, England Son Salford Elizabeth A Daley abt 1870 Salford, Lancashire, England Relative Salford The dates of the children's birth are before the marriage you've got in 1862 so maybe not the same family, or children he had with his first wife?? |

is this your Elizabeth in 1861?? Dates slightly out. Alfred Cotton abt 1829 Manchester, Lancashire, England Head Little Lever Martha Cotton abt 1830 Manchester, Lancashire, England Wife Little Lever Robert Cotton abt 1844 Manchester, Lancashire, England Nephew Little Lever Elizabeth Sampson abt 1832 Manchester, Lancashire, England Sister-in-law Little Lever It would seem very likely as her sister has married Alfred Cotton? |

Sarah's death which fits in with the marriage to Elizabeth later in the year. Name: Cotton, Sarah Ann Record Type: Deaths Quarter: June Year: 1862 District: Salford County: Greater Manchester Lancashire Volume: 8d Page: 24 There is also a marriage listed for William, but no other person listed with him this is probably the right one: Cotton, William 1862 September Marriages Manchester (1837-1924) |

In the 1861 census Eliza is only listed as Sarah, as is her death. I've been trying to find the Martha I mentioned earlier who Elizabeth was living with in 1861, but I can't find her as yet either in 1851. I don't know if someone else with fresh eyes could look? I guess we might find both Martha & Sarah together? I can't find Alfred Cotton who Martha married in 1851 either? Maybe just me, but alternatively maybe they are all together, out of the country? Would that be plausible in the early 1850s? Not sure .... Anway, hope you have some luck! I'm going to have to go and do some chores for a while now I've got the baby asleep (should do something useful!!). Good luck. |

There are large parts of manchester missing from the 1851 census, so you might never know if they were there. |
