I have James Bradshaw aged 45 b Newington in the 1901 census (RG13/389/4/18) with wife Elizabeth 44 and children Jane 19, James 18 and Ada 15 (my grandmother). In 1891 they are in St Mary Walworth with mother-in-law Elizabeth Kalthoeber aged 54. In 1881 James is a boarder with Elizabeth Rabthoeber (mistranscription of Kalthoeber) head and Elizabeth Rabthoeber daughter (later to marry James). I would be very grateful if anyone could find James in the 1871 and 1861 census records. His father was Benjamin Bradshaw and mother, I believe Emma nee Hawkins (I have no age for either parent). Any help very much appreciated. Regards Ron |

The 'A' is the same as the capital 'A' on a name a few lines up. Reg |

The partridges are too young to be Grandparents maybe they are his Godparents? had a look, no its def says 'a son', maybe he was their godson and he stayed with them a lot, so called him adopted, it happens? |

Thanks to you all May I ask what occupation Benjamin has in the 1861 census. There is a printing them running through the Bradshaws in later census records. Could I please also have the addresses for both Thanks Ron |

Sorry to be greedy but I have just looked at the marriage of Benjamin Bradshaw and Emma Hawkins on 11 March 1852. He is living in Friendly Place Newington, a shoemaker and she in Charles Street Newington. His father is Richard also a shoemaker and hers is James, deceased. Could you please check the 1851 census for either or both. Thanks Ron |

Reggie, that's brilliant. I think that probably confirms they are both correct as Benjamin was a shoemaker (I know it's a common occupation, but....) and Henshaw Street features on a later census, albeit number 68. Thank you so much for the info. I will send you a PM for images and am very grateful for your help. Ron |

Hello Would anyone be able to respond to the penultimate query on this thread re: 1851 census for Benjamin Bradshaw and/or Emma Hawkins. Reg and others have helped me a great deal with later censuses but I think they thought the thread was finished. Would be most grateful Ron |
