I will check out the Isabellas you have given me for the 1901 census. I suppose it will be a case of ordering marriage cert to obtain the parents names, just seems strange that her children not with her on 1901 census !! The plot thickens Nic x

Georgina Yes she was.. birthplace on 1871,81, and 91 census are Quarrington Hill or Coxhoe,, ( not that far from each other).. i guess it's just a case of trying to eliminate the marriages. deaths and 1901 census entries to try and find my Isabella Nic x

Reggie That's the entry I was referring to.. My Isabella was born in 1862 so theoretically would have been 33 in 1895, not 49.. I think I was just so focused on the fact that I couldn't find her on 1901 made me presume she had died,, I dont even think the enumerators could have been that far out with her previous census ages to make her 49 at time of death.. although you never know !!! lol I did'nt even think about the possibility of her marrying,, you know what it's like when you get right back into the research,, sometimes the blinkers go on !! georgina -- oohh, good point,, I did wonder if she got married or not,, you see. she had 2 children between 1881 and 1891 and they took her surname ( so presumed out of wedlock as have been unable to trace their father).. I just presumed she had died becuase I could'nt find her with Dodds surname.. That's another good lead to go on,, will check out the 1901 census now to see what light that can shed as should find her with married name now ,, should also hopefully be able to find a death for her now as will have correct surname,, well, that's if it proves to be my isabella!! Thanks for looking for me,, sometimes a fresh pair of eys and brain cells can give a new angle to it...lol Nic x

Are you positive she died and didn't get married?

therewill be no other info on ancestry, you may need to buy the cert and see who registered the death and see if it adds up it a chance you have to take jess

Hello I am trying to trace an elusive ancestors death. Isabella Dodds from co. Durham I have her birth and entried in census from 1871 to 1891 but she is nowhere to be found on 1901 census. I have looked at Ancestry free index and there is a possibility the entry is on there (death in 1895 parish of Auckland)but without being able to see the death cert or finding her on the 1901 census I cannot be sure if it is her. Would someone who has access to Ancestry be able to look at that entry for me to see if any extra info is on it that just the index info, it would be much appreciated as would help in one of my many quests.
