Sophia Chowns bapt. Farnham Royal either 1806 or 1807 (22 July). I believe she died before Aug 1816 as there's another Sophia born to the same parents, Robert & Susanna. I think you couldn't find a burial for 1st Sophia in Farnham Royal, would it be possible for you to check Stoke Poges as the family moved there sometime before 1819? Many thanks indeed. Nell |

hi I dont know if there would be any record of this but its worth my asking you I have an Isabella merrin English born North Shields, 1855 orphaned and by the 1871 census had been taken to the St Andrews Gloucestershire Civil St James and Pauls District new orphan House. I think I may have traced her back on Tyneside later on, but would love to have any information available re the orphanage. thanks judith |

Hi Jo If you have time can you look for any wills to do with the name Alice PUTTENHAM, & her son Joseph Puttnam/Putnam who was also known as Joseph VERE. Joseph was born in 1761 in Aston Clinton, Bucks. He died in 1816. He was born to Alice Puttenham in 1761, but there was no father mentioned on the baptism record. He married & named most of his children VERE. I am hoping there will be a will for a male VERE which will mention Joseph as his son, or Alice may have left a will herself. Could you also check the 'Bastardy bonds' whatever they are to see if there is any mention of him, & see if there is a record of Alice's death in approx 1784. Thanks Joan |

Christine For the first time, I got annoyed with another person doing their tree. Adstock is only on film and someone was using it for 4 hours !!!!. I had to leave in the end and there was someone else wanted Adstock as well. When I looked, it appeared that he was writing down almost all but not all the BMDs and had about 20 A4 pages. Grrrrrrr I will look when I go on Monday. Maybe I should have taken his phone number. I bet he has transcribed your birth details. LOL Incidentally, the parish records verey rarely give the mothers maiden name. I would say never but for the first time today I saw the parish records in Beaconsfield started doing so in 1800. You may get lucky. But you will surely get her first name. Jo |

Tony The only think the christening gives is what you know. Christened on 7th July 1861 to William and Alice. Me thinks you will need to buy the cert to confirm her maiden name. Jo |

Hilary I have found your christeneing and can confirm that it was 31st July 1796. But there is no mothers maiden name. There very very rarely is on parish records. Guess you will need to find where they married. For some unknown reason the marriages ate Oakley only went up to 1753, then started again in 1813, otherwise I would have checked. The records could have been destroyed. Jo |

Joan Seems I am not having much luck today. There was some sort of gas leak in the strong room where the bastardy records and wills are stored and that part will not be open until the middle of next week. But I will go back and have a look for you. In the meantime I have found these deaths Puttnams Daniel 30/10/1783 Eliza 4/4/1784 Ann 26/5/1787 - Wife of George John 13/1/1791 - Son of Joseph and Ann James 28/10/1792 Ann 29/1/1794 - dau of Joseph and Ann These marriages Lawrence Bayley m Ann Puttenham 19/7/1774 - Wit George Puttenham Joseph Vere m Ann Flexman 21/6/1785 - wit John Flexman George Puttnam m Ruth Wright 15/10/1786 - wit Jos Puttnam Joseph Putnam m Sarah Badrick 5/9/1803 - no family witness John Putnam m Mary Impey 28/12/1803 - no family witness. I will look next week, when I go into town. At least I have found out what bastardy records are. Jo |

Ooo thanks Jo. No, you aren't having much luck are you?? I didn't know what bastardy bonds are either (still not certain but have been told could hold vital info in Joseph's case!) Joseph Vere (marrying Ann Flexman,) and Joseph Puttnam (marrying Sarah Badrick) are one & the same person !! He was baptised Puttenham, then changed to Vere, then to Puttnam !!! No womnder I have trouble finding him !! Just my luck!! Third time lucky, maybe next time ?? lol Thanks Joan |
