Claire, NEVER take anything written on a census as 100% accurate. names, dates etc have been prooved wrong many times before !! Use information from a census as a guideline. She may have THOUGHT that's were she was born - and she may have lived there when she was very young - but doesn't mean she was actually born there. |

I think the Sarah Hadfield must be Ellens sister. I'm not sure about the other one with the single N in kennedy, or do you think it's a possibility? |

Sarah H Kennedy born about 1833. I think it's got to be the one because on the 1871 census Sarah was living with a woman named Elizabeth Singleton or Lingleton Sarah is the daughter & Elizabeth is head born abt 1813. There is also a Cavannah S Kennedy abt 1851 Granddaughter! |

Claire, The Parish registers were transcribed by volunteers - members of the LDS. Errors were made during this process - but you must consider that many names have changed the way of spelling over hundreds of years. Folks were very illiterate back in them days as well. All you can do is carry on researching the 'facts' that you have. For now, accept the age on Ellen's marriage cert. Find a birth of approx year with Father's name Thomas. We need to find the family on the 1841, in the hope that we can find the family as a 'whole' ! ....... the cheapest way of doing this for you, is to buy a subscription to TheGenealogist website and look for Ellen Kennedy b c1837 .... hopefully she is with father Thomas.. No one else should be looking this up for you on the Name Index - it is against the rules and conditions of TheGenealogist and will get folks into trouble. :-((( Elaine ;-) http://www.thegenealogist(.)co.uk/ ... remove () from addy. |
