Pen Many thanks. St Lukes doesn't seem quite the right area, but I have made a note and will have a good look round when I can. Not 100% sure this is MY Leah, but have yet to find alternative! Thanks again for your time and trouble. Nell

Pen Well, good to know that the Jews were just as awkward as the gentiles, when it comes to family trees! nell

Your welcome nell - Had a look on the 81 and it could well be Aaron as there was a family with those names in that area - think the addy was 5 BELL COURT though, not 100%. Their birth years were out though. Have not been able to locate a marriage for Rachel and ? (Aaron Nathan). And I can not spot Aaron on the 71 and Rachel was down as unmarried on the 71 was'nt she, lol. Yours are worse than mine. Pen x

Pen I've just looked. I think the head of the family is Aaron. Lea looks like my Leah although her age is out. It seems to be the same lot as on 1871 at the same address. shame it doesn't specify Lea/h's relationship to Aaron, but I think it should be mother in law. Many thanks. Nell

There was a Phillips family on the next page in the census image I was looking at before, and there was a Leah phillips, but the year was about 1805 I think. I'll see if I can find it and post the details. Probably nothing, but always worth a long shot just in case!! Sorry, the birth year much later, so probably no link: Here it is just in case. It was the combo of Leah & Moses that made me think there might be something there. (Margaret!) ooh Lady Liberty. I got excited as Phillips is the maiden surname of Leah's grandson's wife, although Phillips and Hart are the equivalent of Smith & Jones in the Jewish world! Worth investigating, thanks. nell

Margaret & Nicky (not sure if you are both helping!) Thank you for Lipman - I already have that entry, but its good to have it confirmed. Not sure the Hart family you found with Ann & Isaac are connected. The trouble is that all the names (even the fancy Rosetta) occur in many Jewish families, but it is suggestive and I will make a note of it. I don't know much about Leah or her husband. He was called Moses Hart and was a fishmonger at 101 Middlesex Street, where his son Solomon Zalig and grandson Zusman (my husband's great great grandfather) worked. I haven't found a marriage yet, though I intend to have a look at the Jewish records on microfilm when I next get up to London. thank you for your help so far. nell

Not having much luck with Leah so far. What was her husband called? I wonder if I might find her records on IGI, might have a death listed? Do you know what her maiden name was?
