The 1841 census does not tell you much only householders. there is a samuel b abt 1800 married to Margaret b abt 1800 and 1 daughter Ester b abt 1826 (16 years old) This could have been his sister? Was William married in 1841 as he is not on the 1841 census with his mother & father? Nic

Hi Nic As far as I know he wasn't married in 1841.I just know of his marriage to Caroline Lenton in 1853.He was a mariner.Do you think he could of been at sea,as I can not find him any where in 1851 either. Thanks Julie

Yes he could have been that might explain why he's not in 1841 & 1851? Nic

Julie, on 1851 census I have found Samuel living in York with his daughter ester & his sister Martha Dean born 1788 in Wickham Buchinghamshire??? Margaret, William's mother must have died between 1841 & 1851? So Samuel had a sister also if this is the right one? He also was born in Buckinghamshire? Hope its the right one Nic

Nic Yes your right it is a problem when they get married, should just keep the name they were babtised with,it would make our job so much easier. I'm going to see if I can find Esther marriage,as I don't think she died.Well not in York any way. Thank you again for your help. Julie

I have looked on the Royal Navy records for William Dean but only come up with a William Dean born 1799 If it is a relation it could be Samuel's brother?? only a guess though as it doesn't say where he was born or anything!

Nic Thanks for looking that up for me.I don't know as yet if Samuel had any brothers, I only know of the sister you found for me. I do know that both Samuel and his son William were both mariners Julie
