no not the same, could have been christened at any time after birth , up to and including into adulthood example FREDERICK BROWN Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 15 MAR 1847 Christening: 29 MAR 1847 Saint Peter Mancroft, Norwich, Norfolk, England Death: Burial:

hiya, it just depends when the event took place, if it was after 1837 then it'd be a birth cert you could order, pre 1837 then you have to search parish records for a christening/baptism, there are NO birth certs before 1837 hope this helps Julie

They are not the same. Civil birth registrations can be obtained from the GRO but Christening Certificates would be available from the parish or archdiocese where the christening occured. Rose

You can get christening certificates, I have my grandmother's from 1928, but this was passed on through the family and is the only way you can get them (I think). Fern -x-.

In Scotland it was not uncommon at a baptism for the Minister to annotate and sign the back of the birth certificate. Denis.

they are not the same, if you have the date and place were they was christened, you can apply there. you will prob need the parents names, and address, when it took place, i come from the catholic faith and i know that my church keeps records,up to 80 years. but failing that you could right to the diocese in leeds, they hold most records there. and should be able to help you obtain the cert. good look tracey

depends when, nowadays, its the date place - name of priest- name of parents- names of godparents- what faith- tracey to me they seem more like a achievement cert, rather than a cert like you would get from a birth, death,or marriage. not to sure if each faith has different ways of documentation, but i do know that the catholic docs are as i mentioned above. tracey

Just christened my little ones, last year and they got a small card with those details on mentioned above. I think they are used in all CoE churches, so each faith may or may not have something different. They are not official and I don't think you could easily get a copy after the event? May be wrong though!
