ss Crichtoun was sunk off Lowestoft by E-boats 19 March 1945. Ship was on a voyage from Leith to London. Medal records only exist for merchant seamen who claimed medals after the war. A very detailed explanation is provided on the National Archives website. Denis. |

Hi Mary, The name of the person was Partrick Fox he was about 25 years of age and a 1st Class stoker on THE SS CRICHTOUN mercahant navy ship. It was reported that he died after the boat was attacked, his death was recorded on Sat March 24th 1945, in the Dundee Newspaper but we just think the body was never found at sea, not sure on this. My friend later found a ship with the same name being used in Canada after the war and therefore thought the ship never sank but was just attacked and although some people died the were still able to carry on and dock somewhere. Not sure on all the facts. Betty |

A friend of mine is trying to find her grandfather who was killed when in a merchant navy ship during WW2. He was working in the boiler room when the boat was blown up. She has heard that the ship was later repaired and sent to Canada. Does anyone know of a website which could help her search for her grandfathers death. Betty |
